John's Story
Life
My Spouse
Met at work - West Valley Nuclear Plant - Married 45++ and going strong
My Kids
Two boys ages 43, 40 one living at home and one in the Nashville, TN area. One working in Graphics/Illustration field. One not working much, has some learning disabilities and lives with us.
My Job
Mostly retired (as of 2015) working a few hours a month as a consultant - in the National Security area for the Department of Energy (as a contractor with Battelle Pacific Northwest laboratory). Heavy involvement with the UN - International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria and the control of nuclear materials resulting from the downsizing of the U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons programs. Lots of foreign travel which kept it interesting.
Still having fun!
Workplace
Work Bio - Wow thats a long time ago
During and after electronics school built and tested king size battery chargers
Very short - stint on Section gang on Erie RR.
Short stint Jamestown Tabletop sanding drawer fronts with John Kaisers Mom
Then about 8 years at West Valley Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Plant in operations and engineering
Then 10 yea...Expand for more
rs in SC at another nuclear reprocessing plant same stuff but with about 4 years as a lobbiest - absolutely great civics lesson
Then on to Washington State to work at a Dept of Energy nuclear site (operations and engineering).
Back to SC to work as a consultant doing national security planning
Then a two year stint in Oak Ridge TN to work as a licensing safeguards expert at a uranium enrichment plant.
Then finally the current job here in Washington DC (temp assignment that turned into 16 years) working for the Dept of Energy in national security stuff with much involvement with Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency which "forces" me to travel to Vienna, Austria and Russia often. Trying to save the world from the spread of nuclear weapons. Kind of lucked into this one and so far I'm still having fun. My wife works in the same subject areas and building so that helps a lot.
Retirement about 2015 still consulting about 30 hrs a month - lousy money manager and I was still having too much fun.
Moved to Washington PA in about 2013 on the edge of the Washington and Jefferson College Campus - very neat
