Jp's Story

Life 4 days after NOT graduating, I went into the Army. Came back some months later as Hometown Recruiter. Went to Germany for the next 2 1/2years. Had a great time there, traveled quite a bit, went to a huge amount of concerts and bought my 1st Harley. Thats when the real fun began! During that time I got my diploma from Washington State. Returned home in 1980 and entered the Aviation Industry. Along the way I hooked up with a local band that made it big and became a roadie (lighting, pyro, stage manager and rigger). Some how I met my wife, Lori. This year we will be together 25 yrs and married 20 yrs. Between touring and local work we some how managed to have 2 kids, both girls. Danielle 16 and Alix 12. They are my pride and joy. The best thing I've every done has been to raise my girls. In the past 27 yrs of working in the entertainment business, I've have to do other type's of work too. I had to get off the road for some time to realign my life and priorities. In 88' I moved from California to Arizona. It was the best decision I've made since marring Lori. Both of my kids were born here and we currently live in Desert Hills on an acre and 1/4 of pristine desert. I love it here! After almost 27 yrs in the entertainment industry I decided to call it quits. I've been a rigger here in AZ for 15+ yrs and have rigged about every show that has come thru town. On Oct.3rd 2006 I turned 47 and did my last gig. The show that would be my last was Rodger Waters. It was the absolute best gig I've ever done, the crew was the best, the show was gre...Expand for more
at and I kicked-a** at 47 years old!! I'm currently a Building Engineer at a 500,000 sq.ft business facility. I also have a blog "JP's Rigging Points", on a site called Roadie.net. I try to help up and coming riggers with any issues they may have to resolve when it comes to rigging. Seems I just can't completely let go of the business I love so much! I've had a hellofva time gigging. Been all over the world, seen the sites and experienced things I would have never had the chance too, if it were not for being a roadie. And thru it all, I've raised 2 very beautiful and relatively normal girls. Now, that chapter of my life is done and it was great! Now it's time to start another chapter. So, thats life as I know it for now. JP. 02/26/09 time to update! In Oct. of 2007 I lost my job. Had a bit of a tough time but, we made it thru it. In Aug. 2008 I found the match made in HELL. I have become the Building Engineer at the Dodge Theatre. I couldn't ask for a better job. I have the best of both worlds. A stable job (with great pay and beni') and I get to still be involved with the music business. I still see all my friends from the road and get paid for taking care of the Theatre. Since I have my rigging background I can still rig if I want. Live Nation, my employer has paid for me to get certified with the ETCP rigging program. I gotta say, sometimes life can be hard as a rock but just when things start to get on you the rock melts and things turn out ok. Life ain't fair, but sometimes it's pretty goddamn good! Until the next phase, see ya'!
