John's Story
Life
I am back in Cape May...I returned in May of 2006...A lot has changed in the Cape, tons more people and fewer woods...Who are all these new people who say they are locals???...just enjoying a summer vacation...Here is a recap of the past:
I left college at Rutgers after a couple of years, and began traveling coast to coast working in the tourism industry for about 10 years before
I returned to my native Albuquerque, New Mexico, and got very used to the sun every day...it rarely gets two days in a row of clouds in Albuquerque, but I did miss the ocean!...I went back to school and earned a degree in journalism and then became a reporter, like dad and grandpa...after 5 newspapers and 5 awards, i left that field, and found work in the hospitality industry as a hotel manager for twice the money...after working there about 15 years, my historic hotel was sold and closed, and brother Don urged me to ...Expand for more
come back to Cape May for a visit...Now, I am settling in on the Cape...It is taking a while to reconnect and relearn the area...
School
would have graduated hs in albuquerque or at stranahan in ft. lauderdale...graduated lower cape may in 74...left college to travel, and ended up transferring credits from Rutgers University in New Brunswick (Human Communications/Journalism) to the University of New Mexico (Go Lobos!), graduated 1993 BUS/Concentration in Journalism/Minority Studies...lol
College
Rutgers -- the towers, frelinghuysen dorm...if only ru had just been b'ball at the quads and taking pictures and writing for the targum...i shoulda graduated in 78, but was too distracted by the rock & roll scene of the "big apple"...lol...finally finished at Univ. of New Mexico with a Bachelor's of University Studies ('93) with an emphasis on journalism and minority studies ...GO LOBOS! , and GO KNIGHTS !
