John's Story

Having graduated high school, I enlisted in the USN when I was 17, became a hospital corpsman, served with the Marine Corp, became a pharmacy technician. Served honorably, became a product development manager for the polyester div of WR Grace. Moved to US Steel plastics div as a tecnical service rep, and eventually switched to Reichhold Chem where in duetime I became North American Marketing and Business Development manager ( La de da). Traveled the continent and the caribe islands, been to dang near all major US cities, lots of great food (New Orleans is tops), saw the sights, got the FF miles. Now I be's retired and enjoying my freedom (it's just a word for nothing left to lose). In 1974 got married, had 3 kids, 2 sons,1 daughter, all grads of University of Alabama, was married 37 years; had it all, lost it all, starting over again.... LMWAO! Of course we all remember fat Texan (Hey hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?) But his real claim to fame was his quote " I will not send American boys off to die in southeast Asia." But he did, and a lot of our friends were killed, maimed, traumatized. As a Navy hospital corpsman serving with the Marine Corps, I witnessed this carnage from the front row. But consider this, the hint of our century, we still have over fifty years of great music to flash on...Oh yes...colors! Dig it ! Even the dead ones, oh have mercy....who dat say mercy? Jimi, Janice, Jim, John, George, Brian, Duane, Rory, Ronnie, Bon, Buddy, SRV, and the list gets longer, and the road goes forever on, and I still love to rock on it, that's just my game. Me ...Expand for more
going to the Lynyrd Skynyrd / ZZ Top show in Tuscaloosa 16 Oct 11 . Also to see Joe Bonamassa in Birmingham, AL, late November. Have seen Janice Joplin with BB and the HC (twice), Johnny Winter And (twice), Joe Walsh at Stone Pony, with Humble Pie, Allman Bros Band (with Duane & Berry), BB King in Memphis, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Jazz Fest in Fat City - the Big Easy, the Eagles, Velvet Underground, David Bowie (glam rock), Sheena Easton, the Four Seasons, the Mama's and Papa's, Digital Underground (with Tupac), and some that I cannot remember for some reason. Been to many major league and minor leage baseball stadiums, as well as NFL cribs, and college venues. Have seen so many famous sports types that it hardly seems real. And I reckon most of the class of 1967 have had the same advantages that I had worked for. As the Stones sang, "there's been good times, there's been bad times, honey I've had my share of hard times, too." Graduated, enlisted, protested, SDS/WU, worked, got married, had three children, all graduated from Alabama, buried one in 2005 (he didn't want to live when he was 25), got divorced in 2011, downsized in life and business; as Forest Gump sez ..it happens......get over it. ...but I still despise that lousy skankosaurus English teacher, Richmond (she was smooth as a sack of broken shards O'glass). And my thanks to all the music genius types; they let me sample their art in this short manifesto with no cost to me. I always wanted to be a "scientist" when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were correct.
