John's Story
You never know where your going to end up or what you'll end up doing. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do or be when I grew up. After we graduated I ended up going to Stevens Trade with some of you - studied electricity. Did I become an electrician then - nope. Ended up joining the military - was just going to do it for 3 years. Ended up staying 23 years. Never planned on going to college, but Uncle Sam said it might be a good idea. What did I do in the military you ask? No, didn't carry a rifle - I was a mushroom tender, big bangs that made huge mushrooms. Married Darlene Korrubin (70) in '74 took her straight to Hawaii - lived there for 3 years, then off to Italy for 5 years. Came back stateside for a few years then went to Ft. Bragg in North Carloina for a 3 year stint - no, I didn't jump out of perfectly good airplanes either. Once again across the pond to Germany for 5 years. labama for retirement. Did a lot of traveling while in the military - Hawaii (been back 3 times since), Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Greece, France, Belgium, England. I am so glad that we have finally set some roots. The great thing about Alabama ...... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO SNOW.
Along the way we had 3 wonderful kids. Two daughters and a son. Oldest daughter is married and living in Florida - 3 great grandkids. Son is an Army recruiter in Amarillo, Tx. he's been to Iraq for one tour and thank God back safely. Our youngest daughter just got married over the Memorial Day weekend at Orange Beach on the Gulf. For me - I'm working for a plastics manufacturing company, heading up the maintenance department.
I have wanted to get up to a class reunion to hopefully touch base with some of you once again, but circumstances prevented me from attending. Thought for sure I was going to make the last reunion. That's my story.........
