John's Story

Update 6/14/20...I have been running an Indian Gaming Facility (‘Casino’) in East Texas, for two years, now. It’s located, North East of Houston. My faithful cat, Sheamus, is with me...terrorizing all the alligators and snakes...;) Mom and Dad are still hanging in there, but as many of you know...it’s a lot of work...This job is looking to be more longer term. Still have not settled down...maybe, sometime before I put in for my Social Security checks...;) Update 2014: I am managing a casino on the coast of Washington State. I have slowed down the hockey playing, as the surgeries are starting pile up and take their toll. I am still based out of Idaho and return, every time, between contracts. My sister, Julie, has her Chinese medical practice, there. My parents are doing a little better. I still have not gotten married, but have one more year to go on the challenge;). I enjoy the outdoors of Idaho, as well as traveling the world. I hope that someone will update me on the reunions that I have missed. Update 2014: I am currently in Idaho, taking care of my parents. I had just left a Director's position, at a California Casino. It was NOT for me. I will be signing a new casino contract in the Fall, as I finally relax for the summer. I am currently looking at a project that will have me between Las Vegas and Malta. After a few more surgeries, I will be hitting the ice, again. Still love hockey! For those of you who challenged me to get married by 50, I still have a year and a half, left;). It is like my Grandfather always told me... Better get married and have kids soon, or the next diaper you change will be your own;). Update: I have recently moved to Washington State, where I am Manager/Director of Table Games at Yakima Nations Legend Casino. I had left my job, running a casino in Oklahoma, to take care of my parents, most of this last year. Everyone is improving... Casino. ...Expand for more
Ah, Life As A Vegas Pit Boss.. Casino Management (Pit Boss)- cross between entertainer, baby sitter, social worker, policeman, bouncer, verbal punching bag. There are a multitude of pros and cons...but it is NEVER dull. I am currently in charge of a blackjack pit of lingerie models and pole dancers (see photos) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, where I am almost twice the age of everyone else. Las Vegas is great for being able to travel to any part of the world, easily. I have survived: being bitten by a Funnel Web spider, in Austrailia; a heart attack, due to the bite while flying back over the Pacific; being shot at (most recently, jury duty at the Federal Courthouse, last December; having my car catching fire and blowing up in the LV airport tunel...right after 9/11; auto accident (hit by stoned uninsured dancer); tornados, earthquakes... which has ALMOST toughened me up to consider...marriage! I am still playing hockey with some of my old U. Maine and Boston Bruins mates. We still play in touraments in the U.S. (Las Vegas and Boston), Canada, and europe. I have also coaching hockey with Rick Middleton,Randy Burridge, and Pokey Reddick, as well as for Mid Island Hockey School, out of Duncan, B.C.. My parents are retired, in Idaho, as well as my sister, Julie, who is a doctor of oriental medecine. The fly fishing and skiing are fantastic, there. I have been back and forth to europe, quite a bit to see Elena. I hope that she never fixes her eyesight;). I tell everyone that I became a goaltender, because the coach said, 'Give the ugly kid the mask!" I figure that if all continues to go well, I will have to propose one of these days. As my grandfather kept telling me, " Better have children soon, or the next diaper I change might be my own!" Please leave me a message, or drop me a line and let me know how you are doing. I have enjoyed hearing some great stories from old friends, but the best part is letting me know that you have survived to this point. If you ever stop by Las Vegas, let me know...
