Juan's Story

Life I was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. Attended Sam Houston Elementary, Baker Junior High and Richard King High School. After high school, I attended Del Mar College and Westminster Choir College, in Princeton, NJ. Between my Junior and Senior years. I married my long time girlfriend, Adrienne Commons. We've been married since 1989 and we have 3 great kids, Allyson 16, Christopher 15, and Jonathan 10. We live in Corpus Christi, TX and I currently own and operate The Fix It Zone, a computer service shop. School I'm a alumnus of Richard King High School class of 1985. There were 3 very inspirational teachers in my life; Craig Jones, my choir director, Kay Paciotti, my latin teacher, and Alfred Sosa, my band director, I can never repay the debt I owe to these individuals for steering me in the right path and giving me the courage and determination to follow through on my dreams. During high school, I sang for the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, and subsequently was awarded a scholarship to attend Del Mar College. While at King I met a lot of wonderful people, almost all of which I've lost contact with, hopefully this little appeal will spark interest in my old friends and possibly some new ones. I would also be very happy for contact from my friends that didn't attend King High School, but I may have come in contact with at choir competitions and festivals. College After high school, I attended Del Mar College in pursuit of some musical training. I studied voice with John Boyer and had some wonderful musical experiences with Eugene McKinley, Arlene Long, and William Pickering. While there I was in opera workshop, chamber singers and the mixed choir. One year into college, I was persuaded by Jim Bonemani (sp?) the Choral ...Expand for more
Director of Church of the Good Shepherd, to send an audition tape to his alma mater, Westminster Choir College. In June of 1986, with help from my piano teacher, Arlene Long, I completed an audition tape and was accepted, with a sizeable scholarship to WCC. I moved to NJ in August of 1986, and completed my degree in May of 1990 (Bachelor of Music Education). While in college, I participated in the Trinity Church Men, Boys and Girls Choir under the direction of John Bertalot. WCC gave me the chance to sing with world class organizations including, The New York Philharmonic, The Philidelphia Orchestra, The Vienna Philharmonic, and The New Jersey State Orchestra, under the direction of such great composers as Leonard Bernstein, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Hugh Wolfe, Zubin Mehta and many others. It was an experience I could have never imagined. Workplace Once out of college, I left the job that had afforded me the financial stablity I needed to finish school, took a huge cut in pay and started my teaching career with Camden City Schools. There I taught music at both the elementary and secondary levels for a total of 4 years. During my last year of teaching with Camden, my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer; my wife and I elected to move back to Corpus Christi to help and be closer to family. Immediately, after arriving in CC, I was hired by CCISD and worked another 3 years as a music teacher. In 1998, I transformed my computer hobby to a new career and launched The Fix It Zone. My business has survived and grown over the last 10 years and I have found an endeavor that is rewarding both on an emotional level as well as being lucrative. I miss my music and occasionally sing, mostly for fun, but for now I've never been happier.
