Johnny's Story

A 1984 graduate of Vidalia High School. After graduating, I went to Co-Lin Junior College for a short stint but that didn't last for very long. After that, I enrolled in Louisiana Business College, in Vidalia, hoping that I was on the right path to success...the only path that I was on was the path to financial ruin. In my opinion, that school was one of the biggest scams to-date. We were all very naive and believed the hype that they were force feeding us. I did get a job at the Natchez Democrat once I graduated but with the amount of money that I owed from student loans and the amount of money that I was making, it was not substantial enough to make a living....so, in 1990, I joined the US Navy. The ironic part about that was here I am, the kid from Vidalia, who had never been in water deeper than a bath tub, enlisting in the Navy where I would constantly be surrounded by water. It was a bit challenging at first, trying to overcome my fear of the blue stuff, but I succeeded and got choice orders to the Philippines. If any of you have never been to a tropical island, I suggest you remedy that situation as quickly as possible. It was two of the best years of my life. I am now retired from t...Expand for more
he Navy. I have a beautiful wife who has blessed me with two wonderful sons. Of course, they are not always wonderful and those of you who are parents can attest to that. But they are my boys and I love them more than anything. One of the most challenging part about being a parent is that my job is almost over. One is an adult and the other is almost there. Even though they are soon to be adults themselves, my wife and I will continue to be in their lives and offer them whatever guidance that they may need. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train [teach] a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." That is a very apt phrase when it comes to kids and I believe it wholeheartedly because I can still remember the spankings that I got as a child and my mom's words of disapproval still rings true in my ears if ever I think about doing something wayward. I am currently in Pensacola, Florida. I retired here from the Navy and my wife and kids have laid down some roots. I am currently going back to school to try and get that long sought after degree that has eluded me for years. Wish me luck! I wish you all the best and hope that life has given you almost everything that you want.
