Joi-Ana's Story
Hello:
My name is Joi and I attended both Sligo Jr. High, and Northwood High. My family lived on Dallas Avenue off of Forest Glen Road during the late 60s and early 70s. We were the black family on Dallas Ave. with all the children: Billy, Lamarr (Lammy), Janie, Joi (me), Lynn, Melissa, Pilar, Jill, Brian, and Rocky. Then we moved to Fulton MD where my parents had their first house built.
A little about me, I finished at Sligo in 1971 and entered Northwood as a freshman that same year. My graduation years was supposed to be 1975 but after my junior year, I only had an Engilsh credit to earn so I did that during the summer of 1974 and they gave my my diploma. I didn't go to my senior year therefore I didn't graduate with my graduating class. So, many of the folks I attended Sligo and Northwood with may not remember me, but maybe you will remember me if I tell you I was th...Expand for more
e ugliest girl in the school (I have been told). See....now you remember me!
I have four children who are now adults and doing well. Both my parents have passed on, as well as my oldest brother Billy. I have been married twice, and now live in Westminster MD, and work in Laurel/Columbia MD. I have a Masters degree in business, but feel I have not reached my full potential as a person. There's so much I still want to accomplish in this lifetime, but as we all are aware, there's never enough time. After all, look how much time has passed since we graduated from high school. My parents used to say "time isn't going to wait for you to get that done", and boy were they right. They were right about a lot of things. Wish they were still here.
I would love to hear back from someone and hear your story. It's always nice to touch base with our past. I hope to hear from you soon.
Joi
