Jon's Story

Greetings fellow classmates, 05 January 2010 Since I left high school my life has taken a lot of changes. The first year after graduated I got married, became a father, and uncle Sam chose my number to join his band of brothers. I immediately joined the Air Force because Vietnam didn¿t appeal to me. I spent my first duty in South Dakota for two years; very cold in the winter and beautiful in the summer time. I then got lucky and got assigned overseas in The Netherlands( Holland ) for the remainder of my military requirement. I was able to have my family at both assignments. I wasn¿t really sure where Holland was until I looked on the map and discovered it was just across the North Sea from England and more or less the centre of Europe. I quickly found out that the base I was assigned was considered one of the country club assignments with only fifteen hundred personnel assigned, one big family. We enjoyed our stay here and were able to see a lot of Europe. In 1977 my tour ended and my wife and daughter had returned to the states six months earlier than myself. I soon received a real dear Jon letter stating that she wanted a divorce. When I returned to the states I first had to disengage myself from the military at a base in New Jersey. April fools day 1977 was my last day, which I thought was a proper way of telling Uncle Sam how much fun I had had. I returned to Florida for my divorce and to my wife¿s surprise informed her I was retu...Expand for more
rning to Holland to live. Since my return I¿ve been married twice. I have a daughter from a relationship I had between these marriages and have had custody of her which I am grateful. When I met my third wife she had a son so we formed a family and when we got married our invitations read, married with children. We¿ve been together now for twenty years and our children are both out of house. We¿ve recently been blessed with a grandson from my wife Aren¿s son Michiel and his wife. Also my daughter Sara, who is now twenty four, is expecting a girl in April. My wife and I live in the town of Zeist which is located directly in the middle of Holland. I¿ve now lived here for a total of thirty six years and can appreciate the differences in lifestyle of both the U.S. and Holland. Sometimes much alike in daily life yet much different in cultural attitude. Our nationalistic feelings are very strong in the U.S. but in Europe they¿re much stronger and evident due to their borders touching each other. Since I¿ve been a member of classmates I¿ve enjoyed reconnecting with old friends. Some of these friends I¿ve had the pleasure of visiting while visiting my family in Florida. I¿d like to make connections with more old schoolmates and compare notes on our life¿s adventures. I¿ve missed so much of my own countries growth and opinions about where it¿s headed. I know a lot about Europe and would like to share lifestyles of both countries. I¿m also registered on SKYPE for those of you who are also registered. Jon B.
