Jon's Story
Life
Moved to the West shortly after
graduation from Ball State in 1984
and have resided in Southern
California, southern Utah and, for the past 13 years, the San Francisco Bay Area. I've worked in journalism ever since, including the San Francisco Chronicle on the copy desk since January 2000. Wrote sports for 7 years in Southern California before moving up into various news-side editing positions. ewspapers these days. Have really gotten into the
outdoors the past 10 to 15 years, hiking, camping and enjoying scenic photography in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the country. Have been backpacking around the west the past eight years in the mountains and desert. The Bay Area, aside from the obvious big city entertainment amenities, offers one of the best urban areas for hiking in the country with numerous relatively wild areas (coastal bluffs, redwoods, 2,500-foot mountains) within a half-hour.
