Jon's Story
Well now....I grew up here in GP, attended Ft. Vannoy, Fleming and GPHS. Would'a graduated in '70 but joined Marine Corp in '69, stationed at MCAS El Toro. After I got out I stayed in So. Cal for awhile livin' the kinda beach bum lifestyle. Great times and memories (I think). Came back to GP, met my wife (I married above my paygrade :)) and we have two great boys..er,, grown ass men now. Various odd jobs over the years, a stint of a year or two in Brookings and then back home to GP., eventually landing at a plywood mill and staying with the profession until I retired in 2015 (with 39 years and 4 different mills). That profession worked well for me and my family as I worked mostly the graveyard shift allowing me to be actively participating in my kids activities. all-comers track meets. And a couple of years playing in the GP Fast Pitch association. Lots of out of town tournaments and camping (and partying) during those years. Good times! Now the wife and I are retired, we live rurally on a 40 acre property, boys have families of their own but we see them as often as possible (not as much as we'd like) and things are good. This co-vid thing really sucks! But we're cautious and vigilant. Lots of outdoor work for us here to keep us healthy and active. I gotta admit tho, I've seemed to become more reclusive, but I'm o.k. with it. My wife?.....not so much...she's always been outgoing.
All in all I feel truly blessed, I try to always keep a positive outlook and look for the good in all things. I count my blessings and thank my Lord! I watch for miracles that happen so often without notice....I notice, front porch every morning with my coffee and smokes...I notice, and give thanks!
