Jonathan's Story
Life
High school at CHS was a great experience. I have many good memories and I am thankful for the friends and education I received there. After high school, I attended Southwest Missouri State University. I graduated in 1991 with a Secondary Education degree and teaching certification. I also had the equivalent of a major in Chemistry.
A couple of missions trips to Belize during my college years really affected the direction of my life. I saw that God could use someone like me to teach and help others, as imperfect as I was.
I moved to West Lafayette, Indiana to attend graduate school at Purdue University in Chemistry. The college class at my church gave me lots of good friendships and opportunities. I met my precious wife, Nikki, through that class. We were married in 1994, just a few months after receiving my Master's Degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in Chemical Education.
I continued pursuing my Ph.D. in Chemistry. My goal had always been to teach. I didn't know then if it would be in high school or college, so I kept on going. I completed coursework in biochemistry, and conducted research in analytical biochemistry. Through a series of circumstances, my research did not lead to a dissertation. (Right now I don't have any plans to go back to that.) During that same ...Expand for more
period, I began teaching high school science at a brand new school started by my church. That is what I was just preparing to do at the time of our CHS Class of '87 10-year reunion. It has been so exciting seeing God bring awesome growth to the school over the last ten years. I had a great time teaching chemistry, physics, and biology courses.
In the '06-'07 school year I transitioned to administration, taking the job of . . . get this . . . elementary principal! I am preparing to begin work on a licensure program for that job. I really love it. I still love science, too, and enjoy any opportunity I get to talk about it. Maybe I will teach it again someday.
My wife and I are very happily married. A lot of people say that, but it is entirely true. I love her more today than when we were first married. I love my boys, and I am so happy to be their daddy. My wife enjoys making our home "home," translating adoption documents into French, helping other ladies, and volunteering at school.
Our church is really growing, based on strong commitment to God's Word and practical love toward others. If you are concerned about the direction and eternal destiny of your life, please give serious attention and study to God's Word, the Bible.
I hope to see others from CHS again someday.
