Joni L.'s Story
School
Geez, it's been 13 years since I graduated.....man do I feel old! What I remember most about school are my good friends atsuma, cassandra, ursula, "clowee", nicole and henrietta. If I left out anyone, i'm sorry. We've all had our fun, goofy times together, didn't we? I remember the band trips we took and all the dang basketball practices we had! I've come to the conclusion that I'm not good in basketball--or ever will be--and why the heck did I even go out for basketball?! What was I thinking, oh well it's done and over with! Now onto my next adventure....
College
Well, I spent my first year of college at San Juan College in Farmington, NM. Then I decided to get out of NM and transferred to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK for two years--following the steps of my cousin, Kevin. I decided to apply for the nursing program at the University of New Mexico and was accepted so I came back to NM. I now have my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing but I am still a Sooner at heart! BOOMER SOONER! Tuck Fexas!
Workplace
During my time in nursing school I worked part-time with an after-school program--more like babysitting ...Expand for more
:). I did that for a few months and then one summer I was hired as a tech at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. I was planning on staying there once I got my RN license but found a job with University Hospital (Health Sciences Center) at their Step Down (Cardiac) Unit. I worked the night shift for a year and had met my husband at this time. I eventually moved down to Alamogord, NM--where my future hubby was stationed--and started work there at the local hospital. I was pretty much placed anywhere they needed me whether it be medical, surgical, pediatrics, post partum or telemetry. I found my nitch in Telemetry so I pretty much stuck with that the 3 years I was there. So right now I'm doing travel nursing here in Hawaii and have worked the medical/surgical/telemetry/step down units, oh yeah and also helped out with flu shot clinics.
Military
Yes, I am an Air Force wife--a firefighter's wife--to be exact. We are now stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii and have been here since Aug 2006. We live on base and have our "daughter" (cat) Pearl and will soon have an addition to the family come September 2008. Yay! I'm excited and nervous!
