Joseph's Story
Life
I am currently the President of VanJo Productions which is producing a musical entitled "The Height of Excellence - The Lady...The Legend...The Legacy", about the life of Dr. Dorothy I. Height, the President Emeritae of the National Council of Negro Women. I have written 21 songs for this production. Additionally, I am portraying A. Philip Randolph in the production. We will begin a National Tour in Jan. '05.
I am also the lead singer w/the world re-nowned vocal group "The Platters". However, I am on hiatus while I devote my attention to the musical.
I currently reside in NYC (Manhattan to be exact) where I have lived since 1980.
Through the years, I have been a recording artist on several record labels to include, Atlantic Records, RCA Records, Ariola (Belgium & Holland...Expand for more
), PanaRecord (Italy), Bump Records (Canada), just to name a few. I have been blessed to tour and perform with some of the greatest acts in the business. Acts such as, Barbara Streisand, Lou Rawls, BB King, Al Green, The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, The Drifters, The Coasters and many others.
Life has been good. So many experiences and a few trials and tribulations but, God has truly blessed me. My mother, Rev. Effie Coleman, is alive and well residing in Clover, Va. My brother, William Coleman, lives in Lynchburg, Va. with his family and my sister, Claudette Coleman, currently resides in Dimona, Israel. We are still here, still walking the Kings' Highway seeking new experiences and awaiting the next challenge with great anticipation.
Be blessed and know that God loves you.
