Joseph's Story
Life
Here is a brief summary of my movements:
Grade school: Oil City, PA (listing for Oil City HS is so I can see grade school friends)
Junior and High school: Parma (Cleveland), Ohio
1960-1967: BSEE from Toledo in 1967 at night and worked days at Owens Illinois Technical Center as lab tech on solder glass, ceramics (like Corning ware), and TV picture tube glass and metal interfaces. Married Pat Bryan of Toledo on March 31, 1965 and still married. No children or grandchildren.
1967-1977 Worked for U.S.Navy as civil servant on underwater weapons in Hawaii. Learned to surf and scuba after work.
1977-1980 Navy sent me on a management training/work rotation to Navy Labs around Continental US with the plan to work in Washington DC. I worked in Seattle, San Diego, Los Angeles, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
1980-1985 Worked for the Navy near the Pentagon on Submarine Sonar and underwater tracking of ships, submarines, and weapons. This was a "...Expand for more
System management" job where I funded and tracked projects at Navy Labs and contractors. Earned a MS in Systems Management from Univ Southern Cal extension.
1985-1998 Worked for the Navy in San Diego, CA, on undersea surveillance development projects. This was a step down but got away from the rat-race of Washington, DC.
1998-2013: Retired but worked part time at menial jobs to pass the time. Surfed, played golf, took junior college classes in Astronomy and Geology, and moved 5 times trying to find the right place to live. We lived in Orange County, CA, about 30 miles South East of Los Angeles for 13 years. I never thought I would live near LA but we needed to be there to care for my wife's mother.
July 2013: Moved to Bend, Oregon, to get some clean air and be closer to snow skiing. Gave up surfing.
July 2018 moved to a life-care retirement community in McMinnville, Oregon.
Activities: Snow skiing, tennis, and photography.
2023: community activities; astrophotography
