Joseph's Story
Life
I was born and raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I attended Delaware County Christian School in Newtown Square and graduated in 1983. I enlisted in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician in July 1983.
I attended Basic Training and Basic Electronics & Electricity School in San Diego, CA. Follow-on education included Electronics Warfare "ÂA"Â School in Pensacola, FL, Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Electronics Technician ÃÂCÃÂ School in Groton, CT.
My first tour of duty was onboard the USS Lapon (SSN-661) home ported in Norfolk, VA. While stationed on the Lapon, I completed a seven-month around-the-world deployment in 1985, and earned my Submarine Warfare qualification.
My next duty station was the USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723), also in Norfolk. I became a "Âplankowner" as part of the commissioning crew in 1989, and made a six-month Mediterranean deployment in 1990.

ineering Technology. I served as a volunteer firefighter and completed Wildland Firefighter and Emergengy Medical Technician certifications while stationed in Washington State.
I joined the National Undersea Research Center as a Marine Specialist in July 2003. I subsequently earned my Open Water Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. I made 480 dives during my time with the Aquarius undersea habitat. I also serverd as Habitat Technician for three saturation missions including two with NASA astronaut teams. I earned my Basic Diver Medical Technician certification in 2005.
I took a position with Phoenix International in 2006. I am an ROV supervisor and pilot for various undersea vehicles. My family and I currently reside in Florida. Carole and I have been married since 1986 and have three children: Steven, 27, Liberty, 24 and Christopher, 22. Family hobbies have included camping and off-roading in the California desserts, boating and fishing in the Washington waterways, and attending sporting events whenever the Phillies, Eagles or Flyers come to town.
