Joseph's Story

Life Biography of Joe Ryan In the beginning of time, he was born in Salem, Oregon. He grew older in Logsden, Oregon. When he became older, his father took him aside and told him "son, if you want to be a success, you need to start thinking of what you wish to do in your life. I suggest you develop a hobby to the extent someone will pay you to do it." About a year after, his father took him aside again and told him "son we need to have a discussion". He said "yes, dad what do you need to know?" The father said "it's about your hobby." He responded "I'm practicing it every chance I get." The Father countered," I don't think you will make a living as a gigolo." Then, in 1955, after a long discussion with the high school counselor and the local police, it was decided that it was best to join the service. In 1958, the Navy Department told him that he had completed his sentence and would he please leave. After returning to Oregon, he searched for employment, but everyone wanted to give him work. So, he applied for application to college and they told him since he couldn't read or write that the only thing practical for him was engineering, whereas he could learn to draw. Later, the college came to him, to tell him, that since he had been there so long they were going to graduate him. Whereas, he went to the library to see what it meant, in the dictionary, he found graduate- to be marked, as a cup or ruler is graduated. He decided that he must leave, before they graduated him and found the cup was only half-full. Then, he sent his resume all over the world, but the only response was from the government. Therefore, he went to interview them. Du...Expand for more
ring the interview, they told him that he had such outstanding qualifications that he could do anything that he wanted to do. So, he became employed. While he was sleeping at his desk, his supervisor asked him what he was doing. He told him "I was doing my job." The supervisor asked him what his job was and he told him "nothing". The government soon decided that they needed a technical writer, so, they sent him back to school to learn to write. He discovered, during the process that he enjoyed writing to a great extent, so, he spent a lot of time writing. During this time the government called him, to tell him, since they had spent so much money on his training, he owed them some military time. In 1968, he went back to military life. They explained to him that his duty was to kill people. So, he immediately started spending his spare time in the houses of pleasure, trying to replace the life he was taking. In 1972, he returned to his job. After many years, his supervisor came back, while he was busy at his job, and asked him what he was doing. He told him "my job." The supervisor then told him that he was doing such an outstanding job of it; they would give him a bonus if he would go home and do it. During this idle time, he decided he should learn to read, so he returned to school. After learning to read, he contemplated everything that he had written and discovered he had nothing to say. He is still doing nothing, but has to do a great job of it, as they pay him so well. He is now doing a very important function, as an expert, which is to determine why that people who have nothing to say spend an inordinate amount of time saying it.
