Joseph's Story

Life I got married in March of 1995, and moved to the New Albany / Jeffersonville area. The Lord blessed me with a beautiful daughter (named Sydnie) in July of 1995. In June of 1996, Melissa and I seperated, and were divorced by September of 1997. I moved back to Columbus after the seperation. In December of 2003, my National Guard unit was activated. We remain on active duty as of today in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, on Camp Atterbury. In July of 2003 I fought for custody of Sydnie, I was blessed once again by being awarded full custody of my little girl. In March of 2004, my father passed away as a result of spinal tumors. The following month I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Saviour. I have been very active within my church family, at Columbus Baptist Church. I am an AWANA leader in my church working with junior high school age children. Sydnie has slowly begun to grow our family by convincing me to first adopt a miniature dauchsund named Maria, then by recently coercing me to adopt a mutt that resembles a short german shepard that she named Angel. We still live in Columbus, where the dogs can run and dig up the back yard! School Alumni of All Saints Catholic School! Go...what was our mascot?? Columbus East High School class of 1995. Was mostly involved in T.V. Production, and Health Occupations. Don't laugh! Male nurses make decent money, and at the time woking around nothing but women seemed like paradise! I was naive, and wouldn't learn the headaches that come from working in an all female environment for many years! College After my divorce in 1997 I took a year or two to save up and go back to school. In 1999 I attended IUPU-Columbus. I quit school mid semester to pursue a new job. I've started taking some college classes again through the military. Workplace While at Columbus East, I started working at Comunity Care Center of Columbus. I worked as a Cetified Nurses Assistant for a few years, and continued to work there until shortly after I was married. We then moved to Jeffersonville where I worked at Clark Memorial Hospital in the New Directions Behavio...Expand for more
ral Unit as a Mental Health Technician. After my divorce, I lost any and all desire to work in Healthcare. I stated working at Onkyo of America as a factory worker making OEM loudspeakers for cars. I then moved up to Parts Warehouse and worked operating fork trucks, and filling work orders. I left Onkyo after 2 years to get back into Healthcare one last time. I began working for Behavioral Healthcare of Columbus, (formerly Koala.) After 2 years of BHC, I learned the hard lesson that there is no CARE in Healthcare. Healthcare is just a business. Patients lives are the SECOND most important thing in Healthcare. After seeing a 9 year old girl be chemically restrained so that a Registered Nurse could play solitaire in peace and quiet EVEN though the little girl was medically unstable, I quit Healthcare. I pray that I never reach a point in my life where I ever have to work in Healthcare again. After I quit BHC, I started working for the state, as a Correctional Officer in a male state run correctional facility. I am currently employed there. I have been on active duty, however, since December of 2003. Military I enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard in February of 2000. I left for OSUT (One Station Unit Training) in August of 2000 in Fort Leaonard Wood, Misery. That's not a typo btw, I just really hate Missouri ever since basic. I graduated Military Police School in January of 2001. I then joined my unit at Camp Atterbury and began to "drill" one weekend a month, you know the rest, untill we were activated in December of 2003. While on active duty, I have served as the NCOIC of the Provost Marshals Office detatchment for the SRC (Soldiers Readiness Center...where soldiers are briefed and processed for moblization). I have served as the Provost Marshals Office purchase and supply specialist. I have also served as the ID card machine operator. Currently I am a patrol officer with the Camp Atterbury Military Police. I am an E-4 Specialist. The MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) for Military Police is the only MOS qualification that I currently hold. I will be working night shift starting in June of 2005.
