Joseph's Story

Graduated Michigan Tech with a degree in Business Ad; and went to work for General Foods in Philly. After one year I was sent a greeting from my uncle for a three year term of fun, travel and adventure....I went to Field Artillery OCS. After approximately a year of training I was then off to Tiger Land, USA, Fort Polk, La to train infantry troops and progressed from a training officer to trial council for court marshals, to a battalion XO. The next year was spent chilling out with the 2nd Infantry along the Korean DMZ; went from an FO to battery commander. Upon completion of service it was back to General Foods in Trenton and getting married. General Foods was having troubles and I changed generals to General Motors in Trenton. Also, after a couple of years, I re-joined the Army Reserve and worked my way up to a LTC, deputy chief of operations for armor and artillery, I finally retired with twenty seven years of military service. In 1982 my daughter, Ellysen was born. The Trenton Fisher plant was announced to be closing, so it was back to Michigan, Adrian Operations in 1994. My wife passed away in 1996 and I became a single Dad while still working a seven day a week job. In 1999, with health and sanity, I retired from the rat race, at 55. Still wanting to work, I was a plant manager until a contract was lost and we were all let go. I finally decided to do something I wanted to do, I went to work at the big kids t...Expand for more
oy store, Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan in their fly fishing shop. On line, I met someone of similar interests....(Hey, don't worry, if you thought I needed a shrink, I married one.) and after communicating and dating for a year, got re-married. Now fully retired I moved to Wolverine, Michigan, from Adrian. We live on a lake in what can be considered the "vacation capital of Michigan". At present I am involved with veterans welfare activities with the American Legion and have been judicially appointed to the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Committee of Cheboygan County. In the winter I tie and teach fly tying for Trout Unlimited, build an HO railroad, and collect old mining stock certificates of the Michigan copper mines dating back to 1845. Summer times can find me out of doors fishing our lake or on the trout rivers, gardening or doing landscaping, canoeing or boating, or going up to our second house in Hubbell, Michigan, on the Keweenaw peninsula; what a great, carefree, stress free life! (Well, somebody has to work, Carol, a licensed psychologist still maintains a small practice), but we still take time to travel. My daughter after her graduation, became an insurance specialist in the home office of Gleaner's Life Insurance and is very successful. Carol's daughter is married and we are the proud grand parents of two young baby boys. Except for the stock market, ug, things are GREAT and we have a good life together.
