Joseph's Story
After an association of 40 years of teaching, etc. with the School City of Gary --- 28 years at Wm. A. Wirt H.S. and 9 years at Emerson H.S. plus 3 years of "Leaves" to work a year each overseas for the Nigerian Government (Executive Dept.)(79-80) and the British Government (Queen's Court; Belfast, Northern Ireland)(85-86) and the third year in the American Studies Dept. (George Soros) & Psychology Dept. at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary (91-92) --- I am now officially RETIRED as of 15 June 2007. Retirement has brought renewed health and HAPPINESS in various and novel ways. During that 40 yr. interim I taught 15 years at the Chicago College of Commerce (77-92) in Chicago's Loop; one summer at a business college in Santa Fe, New Mexico (82) --- along with teaching Medical Terminology for the Indian Hospital at Santa Clara Pueblo and Picuris Pueblo in NM; worked a portion of 6 years in the dining cars of the Santa Fe Ra...Expand for more
ilway's crack Super Chief and El Capitan passenger trains from Chicago to Los Angeles; and was engaged in worldwide travel, etc. to such exotic places as England (+ Ulster & Scotland)(85,86,87,88); Beijing, Red China (87); Istanbul & Turkey (88&89); Austria (89); Switzerland (89); Hungary (under Soviet occupation)(89,90,91) (post-occupation) (92); Lisbon, Portugal (90); Athens & Crete, Greece (91). One very successful accomplishment was the creation of the first computer-assisted court reporting program in all of Europe (85-86) (now commonplace) while associated with the I.R.A. terrorist trials in Belfast, Northern Ireland. All in all a life full of varied experiences. However, no person has to tell you when to stop working, etc. because your body does a pretty good job at that --- you will know when the time has come. As I was told by a former highschool classmate, "you will LOVE retirement," and I must honestly say, "I DO." JOE
