Joshua's Story
Life
I've been living in Japan since 1988 making it eighteen years in this little island country. Events beyond my control led me back to Columbia last year, and maybe I'll stay awhile.
I spent from April of 1993 to December 2005 years working for the Yomiuri Shinbun, a Japanese paper with a circulation of ten million a day. I'm was the only American writing and reporting in Japanese for a major paper in Japan, which was fun I spent the last two years as a police reporter, covering vice, drugs, guns and credit card fraud. Cheery stuff.
If you google "Jake Adelstein" you can probably find some of what I've written translated into English. I would never write my email address in this space but I will mention that I usually go by jakeadelstein (one word) and that I have an account with gmail and AOL. (Hint Hint)

onderful, long suffering wife, Sunao. Sunao is enjoying Columbia and now that both kids going to pre-school, she's writing a little as well for some Japanese interior decorating magazines.
It's really weird to be back in Missouri. We're living in a house I build a decade ago that looks like a Japanese pagoda and adjoins my parent's property. The transition from dealing with cranky cops, pimps and prostitutes to dealing with irate possums rummaging through the garbage has not been an easy one.
For the first time in years, I'm not working much at all and have gobs of free-time. I'm writing a book about life as a crime-reporter in Japan, TOKYO VICE, which should be published in October of next year. I'm earning a living as a freelance corporate investigator for a few multi-national firms. The fancy word for it is due diligence but it's like being a seedy private eye. Actually, not that much different than being a journalist.
I'm in Columbia, usually half the month, sometimes long. So if you're bored or nostalgic for Columbia, drop me a line.
