Joy's Story

I never thought that life would send me on the path it did. I think I watched too much Donna Reed when I was growing up. Yet, I do not think that I am alone with this concept. Right now I live in the mountains of NC in a rural area. If you told me that this is where I would be in 1970 I would have though you were NUTS. I am becoming more and more like my grandparernts, not parents. I find that so odd. I have learned to garden and can food. I don't believe it either. All I can say is that we make plans and GOD laughs. I am living proof that GOD has a sense of humor. I have two girls that are in their early thirties and I have a son that is thirteen. He is a piece of work. I enjoy him so much. Joe is a great kid....I have been married, the second time, for 26 years, my husband's name is Jim and he was in the 322 Police Car in East Islip. We met at the 7/11 on the corner of Fern and Montauk over a cup of coffee.I find that so odd since my ex Barry grew up at 25 Fern. See I told you GOD had a sense of humor. I try to be polictially active in my community when I can. I guess you can say that some things never change. I dislike it when people stick their head in the sand to make believe it will all go away yet they complain about the same thing they are ignoring, go figure. I have helpe...Expand for more
d in the school systems since 9/11. I have found mistakes in History books ( can you believe that) and had to fight to get it changed because I did not have a degree. Yes I got the books changed, but they did not make it easy. I think kids are great and they want to learn! It's sad that there is so much that they are not learning anymore so I try to help them learn, it is almost like filling in the blanks. So if you have the time get to a local school, tell them about fighting for your rights, Woodstock, getting the eightteen year old to vote, Watergate, Battle of the Bands, stores that were not open on a Sunday, Macys closing at 6 pm on a Saturday going to McDonalds etc. or how you had to hide your Beatle Albums from your father, because he thought everyone with long hair was a Commie, this info would be great for them to learn, it's Americana it's history. Before I forget I'd like you to know how greatful I am for the teachers we had at East Islip and you...I never told them "THANK YOU" nor have I told you. I hope you all(I know I have been down south too long) get to read this. They, like most of you have touched and inspired my life, I feel all of you have helped me help others. Once again THANKS..... Love Joy P.S. Who ever came up with the saying you are what you eat...is wrong
