Marjorie's Story

LIFE Wow. Amazing how life's journey takes us through so much, and yet, how to encapsulate that in a quick summation...? I just know that I have been absolutely blessed by God with a wonderful home and family. And I hope that you all have found the same precious wonder and level of passion and color in your experiences. After High School, I went on to UCLA. I floundered a bit trying to figure out whether the Performing Arts or Law were to become my calling. I got involved in a lot of extra-curricular stuff there and eventually graduated with a BA in Political Science and International Relations. I guess I figured I could work as an ambassador. But as the stereo-typical story of college goes, you don't always end up doing what you studied and prepared for. I eventually ended up in Public Relations and began working on a Gospel/Contemporary Christian album. Along with writing and composing songs, I began writing a book and a screenplay. I guess in a nutshell, there is simply too much to do and not enough time to do it! So my goal is to retire in 10 years and travel around the world by the time I am in my mid-40's and actually DO the things I dream of, and touch and see and taste and know the wonders that remain left to be discovered in this world... If any of you out there once went to Pershing Elementary School, Orangevale SDA School, Casa Roble HS, Hiram Johnson HS and UCLA...please give me a "hey" and email me. I would love to hear from you and touch base. Specifically, I am searching for those who helped me transition through my adolescence easier...with their friendship, their thoughtfulness and love. Debbie Main Becky Luikens Theresa Marquez Becky Wright Steve Frost Randy Castro Michael McAdams Gabe (oh gosh, I forgot the last name! You ended up going to UC Berkley!) Sunny Choi Tim Park Pat Ahn, James Cho, Jennifer Yang and the rest of the KACF gang at UCLA *** Updates: I found James Cho and Tim Park, Sunny and Pat and some of the KACF group just this year (yippee!) I actually had Michael over for my husband's 40th bday! (He still looks the same! and now an actor) *** More updates: Yes, we had the baby boy and he will soon be turning 2 in December! And my eldest, my beloved daughter, Sammie is looking at colleges and scholarships. Gosh, how quickly the spring of our lives turn to summer, and I can sense the cool winds of autumn as my hair now needs dying! Yep, I found some silvery strands. Not just the unnoticeable whites. But the sparkling, bright silver that glimmers and catches even without the sun! lol But, one positive thing...a girl at the Mercedez Benz shop told me she thought I was only in my 20's! ;) Gooooooo Filipina genetics! (Though the cynical side says maybe she just wanted me to buy that new car!) *** 2008 Updates: Ok, the flu season hit us with a vengeance. Thank goodness that's over, but it sure made Thanksgiving, Christmas and my baby boy's 2yr BDay miserable. Now I am pushing to finish my novel and get it to THE agent. At the same time, I have an at-home business and juggling 3 internet websites that I am launching. My eldest daughter is going through a ton of scholarship applications. Of course, she got accepted to 2 colleges already and awaiting the others, one of which is an Ivy League school back east ... hm, stop to think of it, but almost all her college apps were to universities outside of California. Ok...I am getting Mommy withdrawals already and she hasn't even flown the coop just yet! But close enough. She just got her driver's permit and, well, yeah...that's sorta like flyin'. Short, quick, separations to prepare me for when she really has to go. *sobs* 2016 UPDATE: My eldest has her Masters Degree (MFA in Structural Design), my second child is an actress and some of you may have seen her in the 2015 blockbuster film, "Furious 7" as Samantha Hobbs ... The Rock's daughter. And my youngest, that baby boy is now 10 years old. I am happily married and yes, he knows all about the torch I carried for Steve Frost! Lol...Expand for more
. And he isn't a bit jealous. And we look forward to what journey middle age brings us. :) *** SCHOOL The 6th grade to this day remains my most favorite school year. Our family had just moved into Orangevale...and being a large family in those days (4 kids with mom and dad), my parents finally decided to allow me to go to public school to save some money. It was a pivotal moment of my life. That year (1981 to 1982) found me in Ms. Cognini's 6th grade class, joining band and ending up auditioning for the melodrama play we presented in joint venture with Ms. Costa's 6th grade classroom. Being a good, Christian girl, I auditioned for Purity Snow. No-brainer there. Everyone knew I'd get it. But as we watched the part of Tarantula Tess tested out one after another by all the known vixens, and hotties of the school (*grins*), I went out of my shell and ... egads! ... raised my hand to try for the part of the wench with the heart of gold. I ended up getting both leading parts and alternating one role one night for the parent performance, and then playing the other role for the matinee performance for the school body. My inspiration for adding a touch of sexy naughtiness on that audition (not that I really knew what being sexy meant at that age!) upon delivering the line "...and stay away from my man!..." -- was none other than that gorgeous, green-eyed, sandy haired boy, Steve Frost; the boy who each day waited for me below the driveway of the school as I walked to school and would nonchalantly *gets giddy* gallantly, take my flute case from me and my books and walk me to our classroom. Without saying anything! Sometimes whistling. Other times keeping my little sister in tow with the hook of an umbrella catching her shirt collar at the back of the neck. Of course, my sister absolutely hated that, but to me...? He was the epitome of slick. Like a gunslinger. Like a caged mountain lion slinging his rope as he herded prey, like cowboys do when playing rodeo. Like the flow of lyrics over a cascade of melody and song. Beautiful Adonis. It never hit me till 10, maybe 20 years later that what that meant (carrying my flute case and books) and what his buddy, David "Toyebo", meant when they would follow me home and yell, "...'ay yo! Frost loves you!" then jumping to hide in the nearby bushes as I turned around to glance back petrified for both the wonder and the shock, then turning like some frightened ally cat and running off like the wind in absolute fear-mixed-with-teenage- hormonal-filly-in-heat happy-happy-JOY-joy all the way down the block to the safety of my home was that he was my inspiration that carried me on that moment as I auditioned for Tarantula Tess. And which carried me for years to come. Steve Frost. My first love. My girlhood crush. *sighs* Who knew just how beautiful, innocent...sweet and pure LOVE, in the 6th grade could be? My only regret was that I never found the nerve to be in the back of the bus kissing this boy. (I heard rumors that some girl that ALL the boys liked, a girl named Nicole) had been at the back of the bus with Steve making out. Of course, I never believed it. To this day, I think he made it up to make me jealous. Even the whole silly "going out with Arnette Verdugo" thing was staged. She told me in her breathless whisper that she and Frost were going out, and what did I think of that? What did I think???? I told her to tell him that I hoped he and Arnette had a wonderful life for the rest of their life! What did I think... If he only knew. Whether the rumors of Nicole or the Arnette deal were real or imagined ploys to unhinge me, he must know how it broke my heart. Truly. 26 years later and it still freakin' hurts! lol Funny how children understood better than adults the most profound truths. He was mine. Simple. From the 6th grade on to Carnegie Jr. High, to the last day I saw him silhouetted against a grey of lockers in the dark hallway of Bella Vista High...Steve Frost loved me! And I him...
