Joyann's Story
Life
I am living in Socorro, New Mexico now. It is quite a different place than any I have experienced before. It is dry, hot, windy, and clear-skyed, when the wind is not blowing. When the wind blows, you eat dirt.
This is ranching, farming and cowboy country, as well as the home to several Native American tribes and many Spanish speaking people. New Mexico is a bi-lingual state. I wish that I had taken more than a year of Spanish in school. It would serve me well here.
This is a place that sometimes dries the spirit, and sometimes a place of complete peace.
We live on seventeen acres of mostly creosote bush and dirt. We spend alot of time choosing desert kinds of trees and bushes to grow. The sunsets are truly breath taking, with brilliant colors of turquoise and pink. There are wild animals here. We have seen cougars, bobcat, rabbits, skunks, coyotes, desert rats, and many more hanging about. There is more...Expand for more
life in the desert than we ever expected. We have scorpions, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and ticks in our yard. There are, also, more varieties of ants than anyone could imagine, and way more than I want.
We have built our own house with adobe bricks (mud). It was a lot of work, so we are probably going to stay; unless some great unexpected wonderful opportunity comes our way.
My husband is an artist, gardener, cook, etc., etc., etc. He is extremely creative and continues to surprise me with new and interesting things everyday.
I am married, with 2 children & 6 grandchildren. I love dogs, but only have two; I like eggs, but have 12 chickens. It is great country for riding horses, although I don't have one yet.
I wrote a conservative column for the local paper for about three years, but I don't choose to do that anymore. I just wanna' have fun, now!! (remember Cindi Lauper?) I prefer time with my family and friends.
