Joyce Sweeney:  

Life Born and raised in Miami; I attended Corpus Christi Catholic School and St. John the Apostle and then graduated from Miami Springs Sr. High. I attended Barry College in Miami Shores for a couple years. My grandmother encouraged me to begin working for an attorney in Miami whom I was employed with for 27 years. He is still practicing law and is a good friend - Dan Wick. After experiencing the fury of Hurricane Andrew in Cutler Ridge (and realizing the area would never be the same again) we rebuilt our house and then moved to Tampa in 1993. In 1996 I went to work for an attorney in Tampa who later became my husband, Patrick. He has a good sense of humor and we enjoy our time together. He is also Irish Catholic and great to our boys. Working as a legal secretary/ paralegal for 33 years was very rewarding. I mostly enjoyed helping people solve their problems. The cases are always interesting and there is never a dull moment. I've been fortunate to work for excellent attorneys. I also had 30 wonderful years raising my boys, being the taxi driver and cheerleader for all their interests ~ sports, art, music and educational. But it is nice now to have more time to enjoy different pursuits. Lately my pursuits including coaching the boys tennis team at Tampa Bay Tech, trying to impart some tennis skills to these guys and a love of the game (no pun intended); I am also involved with the Parents Club of the Air Force Academy; and I collect books for Books for Troops ~ an organization that collects books for the troops and also sends care packages. Keeps me busy. I have four sons that I am very proud of - the oldest, John, is a computer animator who graduated from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. He a professor at Calif. State Univ.
