Joyce's Story
Life
Hello. Lots went on in 30 years...My daughter Jessica will be 31 on February 4th, my son Kyle will be 26 on May 18th and my baby, Andrew will be 23 on May 10th. I have a granddaughter who will be 1 February 25th & am totally in love! I am married to Steve Bastien who graduated from West in 1982. I met him after I got divorced 16 years ago. He has his PhD in Electrical Engineering and I was retired but went back to work about 3 years ago to be the Animal Control Officer in Exeter. ( I have since left the shelter after 8 years to babysit but still help out at the shelter I have always loved animals and we are a no kill shelter so it is not bad. I own a small farm which includes 4 horses ( I show my younger one at horseshows), 2 llamas , 1 sheep, 10 goats, 19 rabbits, 15 roosters, about 75+ laying hens (I show chickens, rabbits and goats at shows also), 12 cats, 3 dogs, 1 red masked conure, 3 cockatiels,& 6 mini donkeys. Did I forget anyone??? I live in Exeter on 4 acres and then own the farm a few houses down that I rent out. I have the best friends in the whole world! Life doesn't get any better! Hope to see you at the reunion!
School
As many of you, I ...Expand for more
didn't really care for school too much. I did like to see my friends though. It was hard work to graduate with a little baby and do school work but I am glad I did. Good thing Jessica was a great baby (when she wasn't throwing a temper tantrum) ha ha
Workplace
I was "retired" for a few years. My husband talked me into quitting my job and just having some fun now that the kids are big. I was spending alot of time riding my horses and raising goats, sheep, llama's ect... on the farm and was introduced to my son Kyle's friend Shauna ( who's mother worked at the local animal shelter. Well,
started volunteering and then the town of Exeter asked if I would take a position as an animal control officer. 3 years later, I am still doing that and as for my relaxation time...don't know where that went. I do LOVE animals and we are a no kill shelter so we work with the feral cats and stray dogs to find them great homes. The job is great except for the few pit bull fights I had to break up, being clawed bloody by feral cats and having my arm ripped apart by a shepard. Those are the chances you need to take and if anyone can deal with animals like that... it is ME! :)
