Joyce's Story
Life
Married; two sons. One grandson and one granddaughter - reward for surviving through raising two boys. Have relocated to Bryson City, NC on Fontana Lake (see the movie "Nell" ) smack dab in the Smoky mountains. Drop me a line and if you should ever find yourself in the area, I expect to hear from y'll. We are over the mountain from the casinos of Cherokee, NC... Life is good.
School
What can I say... I was not the best student... pretty much skated through with little studying... if I had it to do over, I think I might have put more effort into the academic part of school and then considered college. Enjoyed PE classes and Math... Loved English grammar and hated the classics... I still need an interpreter for Shakespeare... I was well prepared for work life outside of school after graduation. Still maintain strong friendships with classmates and have great memories of Gage Park.
College
I entered college in 1984. As a nontraditional student, it was an interesting experience. It was fun being peers with the kids of my friends. I ...Expand for more
actually believed that my study habits would rub off on my two sons since they were attending high school at the time... NOT!! anyway... I'm glad I went later in life because I know it meant a lot more to me doing it that way... the funny thing is, that only I was surprised by my success in college... my friends had expectations of me that I never had for myself... it was a great experience and I am very proud of my achievements... I never expected to make it past my first two classes let alone graduate in four years... you just never know...
Workplace
I held accounting/managerial positions most jobs... moved a lot, had quite a few jobs. After twenty + years in the accounting field, I entered college and received a Marketing degree... I never did things in the "normal" way... the next job found me in "facilities" doing buildouts and rebuilds of office space... never got to use my "Marketing" degree but life has handed me some great experiences... now I am retired and have learned how to 'relax' and enjoy life at a slower pace... life is good.
