I grew up in a small, conservative town in a small ultra-fundamentalist church --- and never felt "at home". Moved to Grand Rapids to raise my children and found myself. I have my basic degree in secondary education (Calvin College, 1985) and most of a MA in middle school specialization. I'm an educator at heart and deeply believe that education is one of God's good gifts to us in changing ourselves and our lives.
I love my job as an educator at the YMCA. Some days I teach kids how to be safe, some days I teach adults how to care for themselves, some days I teach "special needs" kids and adults how to swim, and some days I do it all. And NEVER do I have a "same old, same old" day.
My husband (Rick) of 25+ years (June 14, 1985) and I have a happy life together. We "get through" the winter by looking forward to and planning the months we spend on our boat -- the Cool Change, which we share with our cat Tahoe and dog Charlie (2 cats - Cheetah and Patches - stay at home). We enjoy eating out, staying in, spending time with friends, seeing our grown-up boys and their families, rejoicing in their lives. Our church is an important part of our life but our relationship with each other is most important.
I believe God gave us life to enjoy to the fullest, to love and to be loved, to accept what IS and to work toward making this life better than it was when we were created.".
