Joyce's Story
Life
After 22 years in the childcare field, I retired in September of 2003. That lasted for 6 months until I went to work for the school district. I currently work as a one on one with a first grade child with cerebral palsy. He is smart as a whip and with his walker, I do alot of fast walking. I also work with the lowest first grade reading group part of the day. My sons are grown and on thier own now. My husband George and I have been married over 35 years. He works for the state of WAshington in the brokerage and leasing department.

Well, time to update. My one on one moved to Mississippi. I have worked in what is called LRC(Learning Resourse Center) at the same school for the last two years. I work with small groups or one on one with children that need extra help with math, reading and writing. It's both rewarding and frustrating at times. I really enjoy the school where I'm at and hoped to be working there next year. It depends of course on the funding. They are proposing to cut one position. I do have senority by 6 weeks. Update again.
Well last spring I was displaced from my job. After many interveiws, I ended up subbing at the new public school Montessori. Was hired. It was an adjustment from what I was doing but I'm back working with the younger children again. They are rebuilding our school and we are being moved for 10 to 15 months to the closed middle school. George and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this August with a trip to Hawaii. Our sons are doing well. No grandchildren yet. Oh well.

Still with the Montessori school but working with the first thru third grades. We have some interesting children this year and it has not been dull. We will be packing up at the end of school for the move into our new school. It is of course state of the art and everyone wants to be there. We have a wait list for the next two years. My oldest son is engaged and planning to marry in November.
