Joyce's Story
Life
After I graduated from high school, I attended Truett McConnell College for 2 years, transferring to Mars Hill College for one semester. After that, I married Tom Dooley (whom I met at Truett McConnell). I then moved to Toccoa and worked at a Bank and went to Piedmont College working on an Elem. Ed. degree. After graduating, I started teaching the 4th grade and remained there for 3 years. At that time I was asked to teach the elementary gifted classes and did so for 26 years. I retired in August, 2000 and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Tom and I had no children, therefore, we love to travel. However, he hasn't fully retired from his real estate business, so we do have to make ourselves available to handle some of his business. I do alot of volunteer work for our church as well as several civic clubs which keep me busy. I would love to hear from you. Are we ever going to have another class reunion? School
After graduating from high school, I went two years to Truett-McConnell College, then on to Mars Hill College, transfering to Piedmont College with a degree in elem. ed. I married in 1967, Tom Dooley, whom I met at TMC. I started teaching 4th grade in 1971, teaching for 3 years. At that time I accepted an offer to teach the elementary gifted, whom I taught for 26 years. I retired in August, 2000. I stay busy volunteering in the community and at church, am active in Pilot Club, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority, Retired Teachers, Program Director for Seniors' group at Church, teach a Median Age Coed Sunday School Class, and activily involved in water arobics. We have traveled to every state in the union except Minnesota and N. Dakota. We have a long-haired dachshund, named Abby (spoiled rotten). My husband is in real estate (rentals and warehouses), which keeps him very busy. He is also a competitive runner, running the Boston Marathon 3 times.
