Joyce's Story

Life In July 1963, I began my career at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill. It was there I met my husband, Donald, a research scientist. We married, 40+ years ago, in an intimate ceremony at Little Flower Church in Berkeley Heights. Over my career at Bell Laboratories, AT&T, and then Lucent, I was rewarded with a handful of promotions into management positions within Corporate Finance. I attained the enormous responsibility of publishing results, for tax purposes, of Lucent’s fixed assets in excess of $1.9 billion. Recognized as a role model, I provided exceptional support, analysis, advice and counsel to the senior leadership teams. I had the good fortune to retire, in 2002, after 24-exhausting years. Our two daughters have been the light of our lives. Within the first 7-years of marriage, Don & I completed our family by having our girls, Vernita and Nicole. I was involved with all facets of their school years including involvement with the Board of Education and the Girl Scouts. For years, I served as class mother, library mother and supported all of their athletic events. I worked as chairperson for the Fun Fair and other various fundraisers. Both fabulous daughters are happily married and Don ...Expand for more
& I are enjoying our empty nest. Our eldest daughter, Vernita, and her husband, Drew, left in 2000 on an once-in-a-lifetime sailing adventure from Washington State to New Zealand. We were elated to join the “Grandparent’s Club” with the birth of their first child, Matthew, in New Zealand, August 2003. Our other daughter, Nicole, and her husband, Terrence, celebrated the birth of their daughter. Our granddaughter, Charlotte, was born in December 2004. The live close enough to play with her weekly. Currently I am involved with volunteer work at nursing homes and serve as Eucharist Minister in Newark Diocesan. These last 55-years have been a celebration of life. Having enjoyed traveling in our Northern & Southern Hemisphere, I am still in awe with the 7-wonders-of-the-world: seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, feeling, laughing and loving. I distribute the free GL Newsletter to 155 classmates who are not members of this website. The Classmates message feature does not allow attachments or embedded photos, however, another server has better communication features. Write me at my home address to sign up for the GL Newsletter. Or write to another classmate to get the word to me. Hope to hear from you.
