Juan's Story

Life After High School I left to the Marine Corps in San Diego California shortly after My Unit was deployed to the Middle East for Desert Shield-Desert Storm. After I returned from the War I was a recruiter for a year and I applied for the Chicago Police Department. Awaiting the Chicago Police Dept. I dropped to the Marine Reserves in Chicago on Foster Ave and sold cars at Thomas Dodge in Highland, IN waiting for CPD to call. I figured if I could get someone to join the Marines selling cars would be easy. Sep. of 1995 the Chicago Police Dept. hired me. I worked 5 years on the south side of Chicago on Midnights in the Roseland neighborhood aka(wild one hundreds) on 111th Street and the calumet Expressway Very busy and a great learning district. Then I had enough time on the job to bid to the 18th District Downtown on Division and Larrabee in the middle of Cabrini Green also a busy neighborhood but the district also has all downtown night clubs as in Rush and Division St. and Weed ST. by North Ave and some of Chicago's best restaurants. I worked patrol for 3 years on midnights then the Tactical Sgt. asked me to join the tactical team a plain clothes unit and unmarked car. I worked Tact for a while and on June 1st of 2004 I was activated for Iraqi Freedom. I spent 3 month in California Camp Pendleton for training. Then 2nd Battalion 24th Marines and I was sent to Iraq on Sep.13 2004 to a town called Mahmudiyah 30 minutes south of Baghdad 45 minutes south of Fallujah in the Sunni Triangle (Triangle of Death) in Iraq I received the Combat Action ribbon and the Purple Heart along with many campaign medals. In Iraq my Battalion lost a total of 14 Marines and many wounded. That being said I hope I don't have to go back but if I am called I will go back I would rather fight the terrorist in Iraq instead of here at home. Many radical Islamic and anyone who hates the United States Migrated to Iraq to fights us if we were not there(Iraq) they...Expand for more
would Migrate here(United States) that is no secret and the Insurgents who were caught stated so proudly with hate and rage. Understand this there are many Iraqi’s who were very wonderful people and were very great full to us. Most Iraqis support the US. If we fail over there it will be a result of our failure to maintain American Politicians endurance to fight the fight. Soldier, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are trained to Fight and Die not the victims of 911 (civilians) no need to feel sorry for the military because we don’t want it we want your support. In Iraq I belonged to an team called the BEAST(Battalion Exploitation and Scout Sniper Team) We insert and extracted Scout Snipers and Counter Intel Marines. As of June 1st 2005 I returned from Active duty back to reserve status and returned back the Chicago Police Dept. 18th District Tactical Team. Currently I enjoy being home and enjoying life to its fullest everything taste, smell, touch, love and looks so much better after I have returned. Life is very short to hold on to hate. Shake it off and smile because you can. If you have the freedom, ability and will you are blessed and should be great full. In my free time I frequent many Salsa Clubs in the Downtown area of Chicago I have been dancing Salsa, Marenge, ChaCha semi professional since 1997 and would recommend it to all. Its great to meet new friends and keeps you healthy. Also you don’t have to be Latin to do it everyone is enjoying it. I have traveled all over the United States and Puerto Rico to Dance. You could find it in just about any state and country. This concludes my Life I hope it was not boring and I hope I have not offended any one. May you enjoy life and live everyday responsibly as if it were your last let no night go by with out making good with those you love and take pleasure in the little blessings that you may take for granted because they are always there.
