Judi's Story
Life
At least one key point in my bio is that I've moved around a lot. I "mainly" grew up in California, and attended La Habra High School. But my Dad was transferred (Pillsbury) to Pennsylvania, so I spent my senior year and graduated there (East Greenville). I was always sort of an outsider -- never thought I should try to be like everyone else, and was very self-conscious even though basically an extrovert, a tricky uncomfortable combination.
I moved to Denver, and went to Metropolitan State College. I graduated from the American Baptist Seminary of the West (Berkeley) with an MDiv in 1990 -- and in 1993 was ordained in the United Church of Christ (a "progressive" denomination; two of our self identifiers: "We don't put a period where God has placed a comma" and "All are welcome here" -- and we mean it). During the long period between college and seminary, my main occupation was Human Resources management and consulting. But ministry was definitely my calling.
How did I accomplish management, consulting, and ministry as a self-conscious outsider? I worked through it, starting with a big leap (some good input i...Expand for more
n a college class) at age 30. I now can laugh at myself and my mistakes, and not think everyone else is as concerned about them as I am.
I'm "mainly" retired, though not totally. I would very much miss not being able to work with people, or feel like I'm contributing. I do quite a bit with our church now as a volunteer, and do "pulpit supply". I've also been supportive of certain social-political groups/ideas, including GLBT rights (we have gay marriage in Washington state, and I've been to a number of those weddings) and Death With Dignity (which we also have here), as well as other "progressive" topics.
I'm married (1987), with two step-children, their spouses, and 8 grandchildren. My husband is a retired minister also, and was a Chaplain in the Army. I met him towards the end of his time there (20 years). He's from Idaho, but having been in the Army, has also traveled ad lived in numerous places.
I live in Seattle, Washington -- and love the Northwest! Have lived in the Pacific Northwest since 1998.
I like being in touch with people I knew "once upon a time", and learning what has happened in their lives.
