Judith's Story
Judith Ousley Davie’s schools include Edgewater HS, Orlando Jr College, University of Florida, and Rollins College. I worked for Southern Bell for several years. At the end of my employment with them, I was working in the marketing department. I had a close friend there, and she was moving to California with her husband. I told her that I would be leaving also and moving to Miami to work for Delta Air Lines. After being in Miami, for about six months, I received a phone call at 3AM. It was my friend. She wanted me to come out to Southern California. I told her, I would come as soon as I got several days off. When I did I flew out to LA. Met some great people and a had a fabulous time. Several things happened to me that week. I fell in love with CA, I met my future husband and on my return flight to Miami, my plane was hijacked to Cuba. Spent the day in Cuba until Delta paid our ransom to get us out. That started my wild ride with Delta. I worked in Miami for four years. During this time I went to San Francisco for 5 months to help in the summer of 1971. Five of us went out from Miami, every time we were off together we explored as much of CA as we could. I married in 1973, our wedding was ...Expand for more
at Lake Tahoe. At that time I resigned from Delta and moved to Sacramento. They kept waving money in front of my face so I went back part time. At that time my husband was a captain in the Air Force. He decided to get out of the service and start a career. He decided on the FAA. We moved to central CA. I went back to delta full time. I worked as an Army contractor at Ft Ord. We did all the travel for the base. Later I moved over to the Naval Postgraduate School. Became a Navy contractor. While I was there I was asked to go start an office at NASA in the Bay Area. Which I did. They were the most interesting people to work with. The commute was a killer. Could not wait to get back to Monterey. Went back to Navy School. Wasn’t there long and they ask me to go back to Ft Ord as an interim manager. I did that one for a year before I got to go back to Navy School. I retired from Delta, but stayed in the same job. The airlines decided to not continue doing this contract work. So a new company took over. I worked a few years for them and decided to retire. My husband retired a year after me. We live in San Jose, and still own our condo in Sacramento. So we split our time between the two homes.
