Judith's Story

Life We've made it into our 50's... strange but so real... although much time has passed, it truly does seem like yesterday... okay not yesterday, but just a few years ago that we were in HS!!! Time does fly -- and not only when you are having fun!!! I lament that I've never attended college and my desire to become a teacher obviously hasn't been satisfied. Had a good career as secretary/executive assistant. That career wasn't too bad, but it wasn't that fulfilling either... however it did pay the bills!!! I stepped out of that career into a customer service rep's role which was the wrong move... it led to my being laid off from Big Blue. I was unemployed for two years and now work for the State of NC - Employment Security Commission. The best thing I can say about this job is no stress, about as secure as you can get these days and there is a "payday" each month!! I am happy to be employed. Imagine being 50+ and trying to decide if I should pursue my "dream" career (teacher) or go into the medical field? Surprising, because my "yuck" factor is pretty high. During the period of...Expand for more
unemployment I honestly considered a career in the medical field... lab asst, physician's asst, LPN/RN. Not planning on leaving this job any time soon, but I still might give that field try one day -- U nEvA nO!!!??? I'm a breast cancer survivor, since 3/97. On a more personal level, I was married -- now divorced. I have only one child -- a son, his name is Joel, he is wonderful and the "love of my life"!! I'm currently living in Raleigh, NC and have lived in Nashville, TN and Charlotte, NC. Who knows where I'll end up... back in MtV?... doubt it!! :-) As soon as my financial situation allows, I'll sign up for the gold membership so that I can take better advantage of this website. That's all (for now) folks!!! Take care... ya'll hear!! :-) School Ms. Claybrook, Business, Dr. Rodriquez (sp?), Spanish, and Ms. Scudder, English, were the teachers who inspired me most. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have attended college. I have some real happy, funny and crazy school memories... even with all years that have passed, at times it can seem like yesterday!
