Judith's Story
I am starting to retire after 50 years as a medical and scientific writer and editor. At my age, I can dump all the boring clients and keep the interesting ones.
I have been married for 48 years (yes, to the same man). We met in graduate school. He is retired and has taken up vegetable and rose gardening and collecting cars. So you can envy me our tomatoes and our recently acquired Rolls Royce! Everybody in town, it seems, wants to see what car he is driving today!
We live in rural Texas. No traffic, no noise, little pollution (except the occasional manure fumes.) The worst thing that ever happened (except for the lightening strike on our neighbors') was the time some cattle got loose from the ranch next door and stomped all over our yard. out, as they eat almost everything, especially roses, which they reportedly consider candy.
I lost most of my right leg to cancer 10 years ago and had to give up the recreational ballet I had resumed. Now I lift weights, do pushups, all that boring stuff, trying to maintain some of the muscle mass I had in high school, when I was a serious ballet student (just not a very good one). I don't sing any more; I listen to more talented people doing it. I also have resumed embroidery, making things that a local animal welfare group sells to make money. As no other group does that, it has attracted considerable attention (and $$$).
I love hearing from y'awl (as we say down here). It is fascinating to find out what people have done in these many years!
