Judy's Story

After graduating I tried college - had too much fun instead of studying so I got a job and worked for IRS and received extensive bookkeeping and finance training until I got married in '63, I had my first child in '64 and by '72. I had 2 more kids and was single again. My 2nd husband, Frank Casteel, graduated from Trimble Tech HS in Ft. Worth, and attended TCJC, then on to the University of Colo./Boulder and received his business degree. He is a proud US Army Veteran. I met Frank in 1978 when we both worked for a broker in Irving. We got married in 1982 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch, and we've been having fun ever since! We celebrated our 36th anniversary April 24, 2018!. I retired from a sales job in 2002, but my husband continued to work (until 2012) as a sales director for an international clothing mfg. We moved from North Dallas to Crandall, Tx in 1992, to Buffalo Creek Golf community, and then in 2002 moved to Trophy Club Golf Community, located West of Grapevine Lake. We really loved our home on the 16th fairway, and enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake and golf course from our veranda. But this house was way too big for us especially now that all the kids are gone, so we sold it and retired to the beautiful mountain town of Ruidoso, NM in 2012. We keep a small house in Dallas for when we come home, usually about 4 months each year beginning around the Xmas holidays.. I have 3 kids and 4 g-kids. my eldest son, Chris has 3 kids, son Andy, and two daughters, Alexa and Summer, who live in Oak Point on Lake Little Elm.. (check them out in my Classmates.com photo albums). Chris enjoys the outdoors, especially our mountain home in Ruidoso, and the Gulf coast where his family and my youngest son, John, and his family spend a couple weeks together every summer. Chris is into his kid's soccer teams, physical fitness,, 80's rock concerts, backyard BBQing and eating PIZZA.. My youngest son, John, is a graduate of UT Architecture School (class of '96). He's a world traveler and has lived and worked all over the globe.. He and his wife Mimi, a native of Rio and their daughter Isabella, lived in Walnut Creek, CA with their cat, Lola, and dog, Faith. But they missed Texas and our family so they moved back home to Arlington, Texas late in 2015. John is into running, riding roller coasters with his daughter Bella, and traveling. My daughter, Melanie Ann Jeanes Neary,(Google her, she's famous) graduated with honors and a full academic scholarship from Ursuline Academy in '82, and from Univ. of St. Thomas, cum laude, with a degree in Meteorology, where she had a 4.0 GPA and was listed in "Who's Who in American Universities." She is a meteorologist, legal assistant, linguist, photographer, musician, poet, gardener, chef, biker, snowshoer, and the author of an etymology web-zine called ta...Expand for more
keourwordforit.com, and a blog about her two cats. My over-achieving daughter lives with her husband, Mark, in San Jose, Ca. but travels often to DFW, Asia and other locations for work. . She joins us at our home in Ruidoso occasionally and visits Dallas often. I am equally proud of all three of my children (obviously) and all my grandchildren, Andy, Alexa, Summer and Isabella, who continue to give me great joy every single day. I am still an avid reader, I read political bios and am really into Dorothy Dunnett's British historical novels, J. Osbourne-McKnight's ancient Irish folklore, George McDonald Frasier's Flashman series, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, as well as watch the series on TV, and Anne Rice's books. On a lighter note, I loved reading the sappy "Twilight" series (and seeing all the movies.. I lost my father in '84 to heart failure, and my older sister, Ann, to cancer in '2005, she was only 62. I don't think I would have been able to get thru that without my Faith. Ann, older than me by 1 yr.9 days,, was a soldier on the front lines in the war against abortion, and she lived her faith every single day. She touched many lives, and St. Pius X Catholic church was filled to overflowing at her funeral. My 87 yr old Mother, Edith Woods Meinert passed away peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 19, 2010 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home.. At her funeral Mass the chapel at Calvary Hill was full of friends and family from as far away as Florida, Washington state and Durham, NC. My husband has Rheumatoid Arthritis and I have Type 2 Diabetes, thanks to good insurance and modern medicine we lead happy, active lives. I removed refined sugars from my diet when diagnosed with diabetes in Oct.'08 and by Dec.'09 had lost 50 lbs and am now symptom free. Playing Wii FIT, walking, swimming daily, doing laps at the gym, and trekking thru the Lincoln National Forest behind r home in the mountains of Ruidoso, NM, keep us fit. Unfortunately I have a small cyst growing on my lower spine which sticks out into some nerves so I will soon have spinal surgery to remove it and spinal fusion surgery. It is a 2-4 mo. recovery period so I will return to our mountain home a little later this year. When my husband got ready for early retirement our project was to find the perfect place to retire, some place that's not too far from all the kids and grand kids but away from the heat, pollution and bustle of DFW. We closed on a home in the mountains of Ruidoso, NM in 2009. It is big enuf for the whole family to visit, and way up at 7,500 ft. elev. we have fabulous views of the town below and the surrounding Rockies. We divide our time between Dallas and Ruidoso, up here in the pine scented, pollution free air where the summer temps are never above 8O. So that's my looooong story.
