My last Classmates update (below) is dated Nov. 12, 2009. Six years ago! How can that be? When I have a minute, will post an update.

Time for an update?
You already know I was a late-bloomer, earning a master's in English/Writing this year. The focus of my thesis was a children's book, although previously I had been writing in my nonfiction comfort zone.
Still recovering from May 2009 back surgery (PLIF) but doing O.K. Fortunately, was able to participate in a family trip to Scotland and Ireland in late September. My husband, our two kids and their spouses visited my maternal ancestors' homeland in southwest Scotland and paid respects at the rustic gravesite of my 9th-generation ancestor (1675-1730), my great-x7 grandfather. Walking the land in Cutcloy, where he and his family farmed, was a thrill.
Next, we hopped over to the Emerald Isle to visit my husband's distant cousins in Killarney, where we saw the prez of Ireland (Mary McAleese) and lifted a pint to Arthur Guinness on his birthday, in a packed and lively pub. (In fact, the stout-maker's birthday attracted more press than the president's visit, although the Irish adore her!)
Last spring I joined Sigma Delta Tau International English Honor Society and now, as an MSU alum,...Expand for more
serve as an officer (Faculty/Member Liaison). That's what happens when you show up to meetings and express a bit of interest! So, I admit to being an English-language nerd and to enjoying the local chapter. My son loves to kid me about ¿¿¿, insisting that his ol' mom joined a sorority! (He's all grown up and still doesn't listen.)
As I had written earlier, my major interests through school were journalism and French. Following graduation, I attended Missouri State University in Springfield in 1967 but graduated from University of Texas-El Paso in 1974 with a B.S. in secondary ed (French and English). During the educational hiatus I married John, at age 20; we had a son and a daughter (1970 and 1975) while John was in the Army. Both kids are married and have spouses we love dearly. (No grandchildren, but we cling to hope.)
Over the years I've worked full- and part-time, but freelancing from my home office is first choice. I'm still active with Hospice, which is a very rewarding volunteer experience. My current patient is 93 and feisty as hell.
I'm still trying to heal the backside, spend time with family and friends, and care for my family, including two little rescue dogs -- a miniature poodle and long-coated chihuahua who adopted us. I'll try to remember to attach their snapshots.
