Judy's Story

Life I got married to Frank Smoot in 1969, and we divorced in 1982, though we remain good friends. I met Bob Williams several years after having known him as a neighbor of Frank's sister. When we re-met, I fell in love, and so did he. We moved in together, and then married a year later (Jan 1, 1986). We were both musicians, and began combining our musical styles to create some pretty neat stuff. (I play guitar, bass, bodhran and bouzouki. Bob plays hammered dulcimer, guitar, mandolin, harmonicas, and we both sing.) We left Baltimore in 1987 and moved to Savannah, GA, where we are now. That first year here I became pregnant with our first child, but had a very difficult pregnancy, entering pre-eclampsia after four months. Our daughter Moira Leigh was born (by c-section) on tax day 1988 (April 15), at gestation of 21 weeks. She weighed just over one pound. She lived in the Neonatal unit of the hospital, on a respirator since birth. Her life was painful for eight and a half months, until she finally gave up, and we lost her on Dec. 21, 1988. We decided to try again, and on November 26, 1990, Zachary Dylan was born. He's now 2...Expand for more
2 years old, and has turned into a great guy. Zach began playing guitar at age 14, and we are both very excited about his awakening talent. By December, 2006 he had written over 100 songs! He entered the Savannah Folk Music Society's Youth Songwriting Competition, and won third place the first year, and second place another year. He's in his senior year at Armstrong Atlantic State University, studying biology (just like Dad). As far as careers go, after high school I took an 8-month course in computer programming and began working for Union Trust Company of Maryland (bank) as a programmer. During the next eighteen years, I worked for Equitable Trust (bank), Maryland Casualty (insurance), Blue Cross/ Blue Shield (insurance), and then Citicorp Financial, where I stayed for seven years before marrying Bob and moving to Georgia. After that I had a few jobs with colleges (in Financial Aid and data entry) and various other ventures, plus our secondary music careers. Then I found a position in a chiropractic office, and have been working as the doctor's assistant for the past 22 years. I would be very pleased to hear from my classmates!
