Judith's Story

Hello All! Surely hoping that each of you is hiding from the crazy virus. As most of you already know, the biggest change this year for us has been not having Mom to share it with. 98 years, majority of which was spent in the classroom, Mrs. Shapiro went on to meet the great artists who passed before her. It asked if she had any regrets, the only thing noted her lack of long legs! Hope she didn’t set herself up for a return to body as a giraffe! Frank and I continue to work and near Seattle,Wa., one of our favorite places to bask in the beauty the water, the forests and the mountains. Although not quite as great as when we first lived here 20 + years ago, we remain just miles from son, David's theater gigs and a couple hour plane ride from the other 2 kids and 3 grandkids. It sounds as if many of you are going through major life changes, as might be expected during this super birthday year and the unpredictability of our day to day existence, For some, I trust it brings dreams come true or, at least, your journeys are gentle. Hugs all around, My initial intro to a life of folks and follies.. Hello Dear Friends of my history and heart. Judy (Shapiro, Mayer, Atcheson) Hoffman here. A bit my story, Why now? I Have no idea! Perhaps it's because my Mom (Thelma Shapiro (Lowenstein) is celebrating her 93rd birthday tomorrow and she and I got to reminisce about so many folks and follies! I and my beautiful husband Frank have been life's gifts to one another for about 23 years (this lifetime!). We both continue to work, together and apart, although slowing down. As students of and guides to 3 amazing adult children, their partners and their children, and some very dedicated friends and clients, our growth spurts continue pretty regularly. Home away from home for us is in Western Tibet. I attended Bowling Green Elementary, receiving the life affirming learning and love of Mr.Martin Curran. In W. Tresper Clarke High School, Cornell University, Institute for Psychodrama & Sociometry, I continued to feed the mind and the spirit (and, the body, of course!) Intentionally, my careers have been many, including social services, human relations training, psychotherapist, and staff and faculty educator at Cornell, ultimately unifying my seemingly diverse leanings and loves in creative and playful ways. Fortunate for sure! A chronic physical disorder preve...Expand for more
nts me from participating in one activity I'd like to do right now. I would return to my first career with Head Start. The "mind is willing, but the body ain't," as someone says. I want to act on my gratitude to the families and staff that give all to so many, everyday of their lives. My physical unpredictability limits what I can do to constructively to protest the most recent national betrayal of some of the most honorable people I've ever been graced to know. Head Start's unwavering courage and openhearted humility continues to serve as one of my life's greatest teachings. Although, I am more and more accepting of this silly body's lack of cooperation, today, I am pissed! I keep my heart soft by including infants and children in my inner circle. I attempt to keep my my mind sharp by honing the art of sarcasm, enjoying insightful conversations with Frank and close friends, subscribing to offbeat FB sites, and exploring our children's diverse interests. The goal is to live with "Compassionate Curiousity". And, the marathon continues... Some current favorite quotes include: "I have many wonderful friends. My mind, however, is not one of them!" "Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children. Kahlil Gibran". "Intelligence is sexy." (Sorry, Mrs. Gluck. I still don't know when the quotation marks go before or after the punctuation). I'd like to think "I am still learning" So many of you continue to live in me as memories and cherished muses. Thank you to those who know who you are and to the many who might never know. Judy PS. July 2014 - Off to Nepal and Tibet next week so I will be off the grid for awhile. Last time I was circumventing the Mountain, I used the quiet time to recall many of you who added a unique hue to the portrait of my life. I started from my first memories of friends at about the age of 4 and tried to name and imagine everyone through the next 50 years! Bet some of you will be with me again! January 2015 - Working Back in our old stomping grounds near Seattle, WA. until our next retreat. It's great to be between the Mountains and the Waters, surrounded by lush forests and good friends. Not to mention, one son acting on near by island and the other kids just a bit down the Coast in San Francisco! Today, the Sun is Shining!

Hey young Lady, do you know how much I love you?
There seems to be friend hacking, again.
If we're already friends, please don't respond to any new request.

As our son David stated "To my friends of LGBTQ pride: I love you, will always vote to protect you from inequality and violence of all kinds, and look forward to always learning. To friendship and family."

Our beloved daughter, Ericka, continues to light up my life.
A playmate and loving wife to our son, Noah; a mother and teacher to sweet Elan; and an unequaled creater in our world, this "Superloveroflights"
(check it out!"
B & W Challenge, day 2.
Our Beautiul Grandniece might have met her match. Of course, Max was an only child for a long time.☺
What better time than Passover and Easter to remember this.
May it be Sweet and Peaceful holidays for all as we "walk each other home".
A smile like this for rice and beans.
You now know why our dear Elan gives us such joy.
I think Elan's Cousin, Caleb, our first Grandson, was born with this smile.
Just discovered that some of my FB Private Messages haven't gone through. If you feel you are being neglected, pleaase let me know. I
