Judy's Story

I am currently retired from the Rochester Police Department, but work as the Town Historian and the 1st Deputy Town Clerk. I previously wrote a weekly newspaper column, acted as Chaplain for the Springwater American Legion Post 905 and served on their Board of Directors. I am also active with the Springwater Historical Society and am currently attempting to preserve some old structures in our town. I am also in the process of writing an updated History of the Town of Springwater as we prepare to move to Florida by the end of the year.. I am the mother of 3 and step-mother to seven (one deceased in 2007) and a grandmother to many and a great grandmother to eight with another due in December.. My husband died in 2011. The children are grown and the grandchildren are growing too quickly. My first great grandson is now in high school.. I love living in a rural town which I remember Seaside as being when I was growing up. I try to keep up with the Monterey Peninsula news and of course, I still have many family members in CA. I have traced my father's family back 18 generations to 1638, and that was very exciting. It seems my own family members were in this area of NY two hundred years ago, and now I have come full circle. I do not know if anyone will find this interesting, but know that I often think of those lazy, carefree days of High School when Sr. Monica worried about all of us. I last saw Monterey in 1994 when my Mom died. I did visit the school and church before I left the area to return to NY, and was amazed at how much the area had grown. Please share some of the things that you have done in the many years since graduation. Twenty years ago I was permanently disabled in a car accident, so I cannot do as much as I used to do. I stay busy, but I am not as active as I had hoped to be at this age, but I still try to make a bit of a difference. I enjoy hearing from old friends and acquaintances, and I have managed to stay in touch with a few people thru the years. Some I have even assisted in doing their genealogy work. I hope people remember me as a nice person even though I was shy and somewhat socially inept. I still read the California papers everyday, and would love to know what others have done with their lives. Have we ever held a reunion? I have not moved all that much since coming to New York in 1967, and have only returned to the Peninsula for visits. I have e-mail and would enjoy a note from anyone who reads this... y It's 2018 and in January I turned 70. I do not feel that old, but I recognize that I am slowing down somewhat. There are now more than 24 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and I am constantly amazed how fast they are growing. My husband died in 2011 and is finally at peace. My first husband who remained my friend until his death passed away in 2013. I am in the process of finishing an updated history of the small town in which I am serving as the Deputy Town Historian and as the 1st Deputy Town Clerk. I also still write for the local newspaper occasionally and currently most of the family is packing to relocate to a warmer climate in the next few months. My son has been in and out of the hospital since November 21st and after three major surgeries is learning to use a prosthesis in a nearby rehab facility. Injuries suffered during his time in the Air Force necessitated the removal of part of his right leg and left foot, so recovery will take some time. He is doing well and has remained positive despite having to learn a "new normal" for his future. This experience has certainly been an interesting journey for our family. I hope all of you reading this have a truly blessed New Year and hopefully you will continue to share your stories with all of us. Judy. November 2018 we relocated to Riverview, FL. It is defined as "rural" but it is far from what I would call rural. About 71,000 people live here and there are more sources of commerce on every corner than I have encountered in any place I have previously lived. My daughter, her son who is a disabled adult and I share a beautiful home with the family dog. My son who has made great strides in recovering from his multiple surgeries is living in the Brooksville FL area and one of my granddaughters, Krystin-Marie, her husband and their six children live about 10 minutes from us. I am not working yet, but there are plenty of opportunities here and I can afford to take my time. The weather is wonderful and after 50 years of shoveling snow, I am glad to be away from it. We brought the snow shovel with us and it has already been re-purposed for use as a very large dust pan when we rake up all of the acorns that fall or are thrown by the ornery squirrels that live in the two oak trees on our tiny front yard I hope this finds all of you well and if you visit FL please let me know. My new address is 13245 Early Run Ln Riverview, FL 33578 and I have a listed telephone number..
