Judy's Story
After graduation, I studied at URI and received a degree in Microbiology. I worked in medical research at Rhode Island hospital and in 1969 I married James Prior. I moved to Roger Williams hospital and worked in the endocrinology lab for awhile and then decided to go into teaching. In 1970, I started teaching science at Western Hills Jr. High. Rusty Carlsten was also teaching there at the time. Mr. Dambruch was the principal and Mr. Kelly was the vice principal.. Some of you may remember Mr. Dambruch from Park View and Mr. Kelly from Cranston East. I left there after three years of teaching to have our daughter and work on my masters degree in teaching biology. ome in Orlando for two years and then moved to The Villages in 2004. In 2011, I became president of The Villages Theater Company which became a 501c3 nonprofit in 2014. We raise money to sustain the theater and then donate to other charities. Since 2014 we have donated $209,000. Since we moved here, The Villages has grown from about 32,000 residents to over 140,000. Our theater company has 225 members. We put on 4 plays a year which takes about 60 volunteers per play and I produce every play. I keep telling them I am going to retire soon but no one takes me seriously!
Last year we bought a house with our daughter in Mt. Dora, FL and visit every Sunday. Our plans are to move there full time if we develop health problems that make it hard to live by ourselves. Got to have a plan B!
