I did my undergraduate work at Morris Harvey, after the first two years at WVU. My first job was in the State Planning Office for the state of West Virginia. After that I focused my career on working in small non-profits in the Charleston area and several rural counties in the state. During those years I had two sons and spent many hours working on a graduate degree at the West Virginia College of Graduates Studies - anyone else remember it? After completing 49 graduate hours, I admitted to myself that social work and I were not meant for one another. In 1985 I moved to Lexington and started working on a Master¿s in Library and Information Science at UK which I received in 1985. But I did not take a position in the field when I finished. Instead I was offered a program position at the medical center where I had been working as a graduate assistant. The position involved providing information services to two federally funded grant programs. Since I had worked in non-profits writing and securing grant funding in the small WV non-profits, it was a logical fit. Soon I was the program administrator for one of the programs. In 1996, because of the cold Kentucky rainy winters, we decided to move south.
