Julia P's Story
Life
I am a graphic designer and website designer (since 1985).
In 1981, I moved to Ottawa, Canada and married a dancer/choreographer (divorced in 1990), studied ballet (since 1978) and performed in a touring company for 4 years. In 1986 I moved to Toronto (city of 4 million, largest city in Canada), which is closest to Buffalo, New YorK.
Although I used to play guitar and sing, I don't play much anymore. However over 17 years I've sung in several performance choirs (One Voice (1990-94,Toronto), Friends (1995-97, Moscow with Cathy Brinkerfoff) Toronto World Unity Choir (1999-2003, Toronto), Voices of Baha (Carnegie Hall 2002, Caribbean tour 2005) Allegro Singers (2005-06, Bahamas).
Event/festival/conference planning is an activity I kind of fell into but have continued to do over many years.
I've been living in the Bahamas for the last 4 years dancing in churches, singing with Allegro Singers and praying with the Baha'is and the Baptists here.
I am interested in all artistic and creative endeavors. I enjoy live jazz music and follow a few artists. I also love classical music and especially chorale. Other than that I like music fusions with Latino, middle eastern, and...Expand for more
African influence especially. I love visual art, but don't have much time to practise it at the moment...I frequest art gallery opening and exhibits. I'm a huge fan of dance performance...contemporary as well as classical. I like opera, I love live theatre, especially innovative contempory such as is current in Toronto and other places.
Spirituality is also my main interest. I am very active in the Baha'i Faith, which means I also respect and read from the texts of all major religions...I have enjoyed reading the Buddhist Sutras, the Vedas, the Quran, and Jewish mystics and have sat and listened to many First Nations/Indigenous elders and have participated in Sunrise ceremonies and Healing circles and must say the wisdom of these ancient peoples have deeply affected me.
I like to read world news and events and unlike most, find a significant good news amidst the bad and that's what I focus on...the bad is a message as to what's missing in society. The puzzle is to find the solutions, which are mostly to be found in justice, morality and spirituality.
I also like to read about cultural theory, and I love bookstores!
So that's what I've been up to for the past 30 years!
