Julia's Story

Life Hello, all, & greetings from Las Vegas (LV)/San Francisco (SF)! I'm living a dual life in the West. During the week, I'm a resident of CA. I work in the Financial District (two blocks from the Bay) on the 11th floor of the Shorenstein Bldg skyscraper...as a WRITER! I have a window in my office overlooking the corner of Market & Spear Sts, and can actually see Treasure Island when the fog isn't rolling through the city & obscuring the view). When I'm in SF, I rent a room from my friend & coworker Suzanne. We met 20+ years ago when I followed my 2nd fiancee to Ohio State Univ after graduating from Murray State. Suz & I have an apartment on Treasure Island, which is a decomissioned Navy base in the Bay between SF & Oakland. The views of the city are unbelievable from our place. Although we're literally on an island, it's only 15 minutes by car from our apartment door to the parking lot near our office building. Then we jump on a shuttle that drops us off in front of our building. My work week (ha ha) is from Tue-Thur. I fly to SF on Tues morning, get on the BART train at the airport, and get off a block from my office. I reverse the process and fly back to LV on Thurs evenings. I occasionally work from Mon-Thur, but not often. I can't believe people pay me to live the way I do! Life in Vegas is also a dream. Since I moved to LV in Aug 1991, I've seen the city double in size. I've watched every new casino go up since the Mirage. I was at an "Implosion Party" in Bally's on the 15th floor when the Dune...Expand for more
s fell to dust. I've seen the skyline change & change & change again...each year bringing more variety, excitement, color, & diversity to a city built on dreams. I've divorced a husband, bought two homes, worked at the Nevada Test Site, made friends, & carved out an adventurous life in a really fun city. And I LOVE my new house. I bought the place from an 86-year-old lady friend who I met at her antique shop years ago. We grew very close over the years. When her health started to fail & she was forced to consider assisted living, she offered to sell me her house of 30+ years because she knew how much I loved it. She had last updated the interior in 1975. Imagine the Brady Bunch decorating after taking a big hit of acid, & that's my house! Foil & velvet wallpaper throughout! My house is near the heart of the "original" LV, & is convenient to EVERYTHING. All of the new housing in LV is being built far outside of the city. I'm only 10 minutes away from Downtown and the Strip. It's incredible! My friends & I have dubbed my digs The Windjammer Estate. (The house is on Windjammer Way.) It isn't really an estate, but it sure is a money pit! Thank goodness my boyfriend is a carpenter & his friends are handy in the remodeling department. Other info: Married in 1988. Divorced in 1992. No kids. Two dogs. A bright yellow truck. More frequent flyer miles than I can ever use. That's my life! I visit Flaherty often to see my dad...at least twice a year if not more, so shoot me a line if you want to get together!
