Julie's Story

Life In 1981 I married my fiance of 2 years, Dennis Powell and was an insurance agent in a local company. In 1986 our first daughter, Meghan Elizabeth was born and our second daughter, Caitlin Olivia, followed several years later in 1991. During the early months of 1999 I was asked to become an Administrator for Rockefeller Township, local government, located 7 miles outside of Sunbury. I still maintain that position today as well as being an elected official (Supervisor). Dennis and I settled in a home outside of Seven Points and lived there until January of 2004 when we purchased our dream home. We now live on top of a hill, with great solitude and a beautiful view no matter where you are standing on our property; still in Rockefeller Township. Our oldest daughter Meghan graduated with honors from Bloomsburg University in 2009 and married her love, October 2012. She and her husband Joshua live in Northumberland and she works in law enforcement.. When they married we became grandparents to Joshua's son Gage whom we absolutely love and adore. In June of 2018 Meghan and Joshua became parents again to a beautiful little girl, our grand daughter, Presley. Our hearts are full and blessed! Meghan is an incredible artist and loves to work in pencil. Caitlin graduated from Susquehanna University in 2013 Her major, Elementary Education. She married her love Dan Williams in June of the same year. Caitlin and her husband live in North Carolina where she teaches 5th grade English and Social Studies. She and Dan own a little farmette where they grow goats and chickens. They have a pittie which is like a human and this Grammy adores and a sweet cat. Caitlin loves to write; I told my husband that the girls get their creativity genes from me and their logical genes from him. The combination provides them with balance. Dennis and I love to travel...for the celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary in 2006 we went to Switzerland, Italy (Bartolona & Venice) Germany, and Austria with our friends (Gisela Kilsch) Gisela and Jorg Lorenz in October of 2006. It was a trip dreams are made of. We also love to landscape, decorate our home and go shopping for antiques. Antiques are a passion for us. We have a Duck Tolling Retriever by the name of Bella Sophia (Noella-Maria) Powell - she is a dearly loved pup and adopted my dear friend Myra's cat Calvin at the time of her passing. My best and dearest friends are Gisela Lorenz and Kim Wickham Whyne. I am blessed to have them and we have become one anothers touch tones after 46 years of friendship. Gisela lives in Switzerland so I have been privileged to travel to Europe many times, visiting Switzerland, Italy, France, Austria, and Germany. We try to visit one another every other year or more often if possible. Kim lives three miles away so getting together is a bit easier for us and we try to do this at least once a week. In June 2008, on the 21st d...Expand for more
ay to be exact, my father went home to be with the Lord. It has been a very difficult time for me and my entire family. Daddy and I were very close and I loved him dearly. Because of this sudden change in our lives, and the difficulties my mother has with the overwhelming loneliness, we have increased the size of our home and as of April 1, 2009 mother came to live with Dennis and me. Dennis and I so enjoy the company of our dear friends so several times a month we gather a few of them in our home, around the table for a gourmet meal, nice glass of wine and lots of conversation. I love to cook and Den loves to bake. He has created some fantastic breads from his love of European breads. We love to explore antique shops for that 'hidden treasure' and then find a place in our home for it. I have to create ... if I am not making something with my hands I feel as if I would go crazy - I started a wreath business a year ago but it is not limited to wreaths. I first design the item on paper and then make it come to life with materials, special applications and vintage pieces I find when antiquing. I make wire sculptures, wreaths, vignettes and cloches as well as other things. No life is picture perfect so of course there have been moments where I have needed to seek inner joy because happiness has been temporarily lost, but thankfully my faith sustains me through all moments of life. I am blessed. I have the Lord, love, and true joy. I am blessed with a loving and devoted husband, two beautiful daughters, son-in-laws, grandson, beautiful grand daughter, family, and dear, dear friends which are also our family. There are a few of my H.S. friends that I have lost contact with but in time hope to contact them to "catch up." For now, give me a hot cup of coffee (sugar and cream please), a quiet morning, my front porch where I can sit and relax and the time to do this ... and I am a happy woman. I have learned in the past year not to take anything for granted, to live from the heart and to say I love you as often as possible. Workplace For the past 35 years I have been in Administrative work. My current position is Administrator/Manager of Rockefeller Township .. pop.2221 (2000 census) which I began in March 1999. The work is interesting, challenging, at times stressful but most often... enjoyable. My position puts me in charge of a Road crew and requires I continually update my credentials and education in this field. In November of 2015 I was elected to the Board of Supervisors so now wear two hats. I believe one favorite part of my position is the interaction with the residents and knowing that I am here to help them. Budgets, Management, Tax work, Mediator, supervisor, are just a few aspects of this position but every day something new is added to the list. I can honestly say at this time in my life (2019) I would not change anything about my position. I am one of the few that actually enjoys my job.
