Julie's Story
I am living in Columbia, SC. After teaching for a few years, I decided that it was time to do what I really wanted to do. I am currently writing adolescent fiction with themes of current events.
I recently remarried to a wonderful man (Lamine). My husband (Eddie) of ten years passed away two years ago.
I am a board member of a non-profit organization that works for peace, justice, and equality. I chair a specialty group on African Awareness issues; the area in which I focus my writing.
I've walked through many low places in my lifetime, some of them with you wonderful people. I feel I have learned so much, and I am a better person for everything I have been through. I am very happy, and have an incredible life. I get the rare experience of living my dream.
In case some of you saw me 6 or so years ago, you may not recognize me. I lost 140 lbs (no surgeries or pills). It was an humbling experience to feel that free of almost the amount of my body weight now. I was vegan for quite a while. I still eat no red meat or poultry. I do eat low-mercury seafood.
I am looking to getting back into singing. I was promoting a couple of local hip-hop, jazz fusion, reggae mix groups before I married. I dropped everything to marry this guy. He is so great. He just wants to take care of me. (Hug the one you love!) He is from Mali, originally.
I would love to see all of you. Our youth, good or bad, helped shape...Expand for more
d who we have become today. We are all interconnected, because we share space on this earth. However, we have a common bond--we grew up together under the same morning sun. We laughed; we cried; often that was a cause and effect. No matter. We were children. We may have "hated" someone in high school, but it is "time to put away childish things." Like hate. Let us grow in peace and love.
Life is too precious and too short. We were thrown together in that building on Irby Street for a purpose. Each life is like a basket. Every person you touch in your life is part of the weaving of your basket. Anything that you do good (just like a strong weave), or anything that you do bad (just like a weak weave), will come back to visit you ten-fold. I truly believe this. I have studied almost all the major religions and some of the lesser ones, and that is one of the underlying themes. The definition is the same, the terminology changes per faith. I have to work everyday to remember this to help me be a better person. I have a LONG way to go!!!
I am on the lower slope lately. I recently (2-14) got attacked outside my apartment. It was a teenager that grabbed my purse & pushed me down, causing injuries. So I am trying to look on the positive side: I'm alive, I have a wonderful husband who loves me very much, & hopefully I have seen the last of these type happenings.
Peace to all of you! Better days are ahead!
