Julie's Story
The 70's for me were SO like "That 70's Show". No kidding. We just didn't have a basement in Texas. I even drove the same model red Toyota throughout HS & college. Plus I had a friend w/a Vista Cruiser. AND, Cheap Trick played the intro song, "Down the Street." Too much coincidence.
I try as hard as possible not to act my age. I still love to sing, go to concerts, travel anywhere (w/amenities of course), write, read, talk/listen (counsel), spend time with the fam ... The list goes on.
I'm an RN who was trying to get back into the profession that I left for 13 years. I was a psych nurse for 17 years, but there aren't many psych wards anymore, and it's not b/c people are any more sane. I worked part-time in church offices & have discovered some churches eat their young. Oh, and I've developed a pretty accurate BULL$h!t-o-meter, so don't mess w/my head!
I have 3 AWESOME sons. All have graduated college, have jobs, and the youngest is about to get his Master's in Theology from DBU.
I live about 45 minutes from Dallas, I love to travel ANYWHERE, especiallly Hawaii and Santa Fe, and I try to get to one or the other every year.
My current hobby is finding a Cheap Trick concert I can afford to get to. Cheap Trick is undoubtedly the MOST underrated band in the world. How come Dallas radio played mostly Foreigner, Queen and Styx during the late 70s?
On the tube, I dig "Alaska State Troopers" (I don't know why), "Deadlist Catch", "Coast Guard Alaska", "Ghost Adventures", "The Walking Dead", "Bones" (love the books) & "The Dead Files". I know I have some weird tastes. Hey, I've earned it.
I like to laugh & have fun--as much as possible and as o...Expand for more
ften as possible. CHEERS!
And some of the above is out of date, so never mind. 2016 is about to start, and my fam has grown. My oldest son and wife just had TWINS (11/25) a boy and a girl to add to their 2 & 1/2 y.o. son. My babysitting rates are going up (like I get paid)! My youngest son got married last May and works full time + grad school. The kid wants to be a preacher. God help him. My middle son is single, looking, but not in a hurry, but I have a fantastic granddog. He's a computer geek and a musician on the side (my son, not the dog). All of my sons are keepers, and I'm immensely proud of all of them. They can make their own living!
I no longer work for anyone, but I do help watch over my dad, who is 91 and going strong. My sweet Mother passed away last October, and we all miss her terribly. I helped take care of her the last 3-4 years of her life, and I'm not sure which is worse: watching her in so much pain, having no way to help, or the painful reality of her being gone, yet knowing she no longer suffers. Some of my friends have gone through these milestones already and know the score. I'm just entering the phase of parental demise, and it sucks!
Sheesh! It's time to go to Hawaii. February, come on!!!
Oh, oh, oh!!! Almost left this out: CONGRATULATIONS TO CHEAP TRICK as part of the 2016 Class of inductees to the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!! I just saw and met them 11/7/15 in Dallas. Wow! You'd never know these guys have been touring nonstop over 40 years. Their 18th (I think) studio album is due to be released in April. They keep ME young!
Contrary to most 'older' bands, they don't look or sound like geezers ...😆😉
