Julie's Story

Life Life is good in the State of Maine! I have lived here since the age of 22 and have enjoyed every minute of it. My husband and I own and operate a home for the mentally challenged. It is a chore but this home is filled with more love than one knows what to do with ! My husband and I live in the country, a 15 room home with a pool. Wildlife galore. Wake up to the call of the loons, see the moose and deer ...who could possibly want more. Life has been a joy and I am grateful for it. My husband and I are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoy camping, canoeing, and 4-wheeling the old logging roads of Maine. We also enjoy wild game meat and hunt. Both of us love to bow hunt and rifle hunt and hope to one day go to Colorado to do a big game hunt together. Being from the country, my husbands family was raised differently than I was living in the town of Clinton Connecticut!! But even though it was a culture shock to me in the beginning, I can honestly say I would never turn the clock back in time. I love the thought that I can sit on the porch with my morning coffee in hand and listen to the birds coming awake and singing their morning tunes. I also can go to the mailbox in my pj's if I wanted to and during a terrible icestorm here, I realized the true meaning of neighbors who watched out for neighbors. My daughter is the true joy of my life, she is loving and generous in nature and I could never imagine my life without her. She loves to travel to all parts of the world and has experienced much in her still young life. If my life were to end today I could honestly say that I have had real earth shattering love, real heartbreaking sadness and true joy at life.... Christmas is quickly approaching and the snow has finally fallen! All the clients here are so much like children and are so excited about the Holidays. As soon as the trees are put up,(actually we have 2 trees in our home), one upstairs and one downstairs!, the gals are in the mood to sing sing sing!!! I tur...Expand for more
n the Bose up loud and Christmas tunes are playing through the house and it seems like a storybook time. I wish everyone had the life I lead. A chance to give back alittle something to someone not so fortunate, it does a body good. As I pile more gifts under the trees I can see the glimmer in each and every one of my girls eyes. Some nights I go to bed in pure exhaustion only to awaken the next day to do another day. But it is good, all good. We have lost two of our girls this year. One died of lung cancer, the other of a massive stroke. Both girls died at home. I have nursed a total of 4 of my girls, and with each death I was there with them. I died alittle with each death, yet in a way they gave me so much more. I was with a girl the day she had many angels with her...she spoke to them and clapped her hands with joy as they sat with her. I was with another who when the realization of what was happening to her hit her , she quietly and willingly surrendered and held my hand and when I told her it was time for her to go home, she quietly passed. I could tell you all about the thousand and one little miracles I have witnessed, I could tell you about the thousand and one tears I have shed for these gals, but that would require giving up too many deeply personal moments, and I cannot do that. On our tree downstairs are ornaments with pictures of the girls that are no longer with us. The tree is something of a memorial to them. It is a beautiful tree. And as all of us sit by the tree, we all remember with laughter, not tears, of the girls who have shared their lives with us. Merry Christmas To All!! 6/19/07 All is well in the home. Summerlike weather is finally here and the flower gardens are in full bloom, and the tomatoe plants are doing well. I am excited as I have adopted a Boxer from Louisiana. She comes home in three weeks. I adopted her through a rescue organization that deals with the "Katrina" animals. Wish us Good Luck!
